While four different hotel promotions were announced to start in 2018, only two of them are starting today – for both Hilton and IHG stays, you can start earning a nice number of bonus points on every single stay! Starwood and Marriott’s promotions do not start until January 16, 2018.
Hilton “Points Unlimitedâ€
You’ll earn 2,000 bonus points on every stay and then an additional 10,000 bonus points for every 5 stays. There is no cap at the number of points you can earn! The best thing about this promotion is that you’ll earn points on both PAID and FREE NIGHT stays! While there are a few caveats this is a huge rarity in the points and miles world! This promotion runs January 1 through April 30, 2018. You must register for this promotion PRIOR to checking out for your stay. You can register here.Â
And as I mentioned above, most stays using points will earn the bonus points too. Although not all! Based on this FlyerTalk thread as long as you earn points from extra room charges on a free night stay, you’ll still earn the bonus points. That mean you can charge anything to your room, even a bottle of water from the convenient store, to trigger the bonus points. Unfortunately though, a few select properties under the Hilton umbrella are excluded from earning points on a free night stay. Excluded properties = Hampton Inn, Home2 Suites, Homewood Suites, and Tru by Hilton. Still a great opportunity for those looking to stay at other Hilton properties, especially if you are redeeming points at a low level property!
IHG “Accelerateâ€
You’ll have to complete specific tasks tied to your account to earn bonus points for every eligible stay (make sure to read the terms per task to ensure your rate qualifies). This promotion runs January 1 and April 30, 2018 and you’ll need to register here.
Remember, everyone will see a different offer where some might be better then others. My personal offer:
Keep in mind, “tasks†can overlap, so a single stay might check check multiple boxes. While the best situation to earn the bonus points is if you have upcoming IHG stays anyways, there are some situations when it might be worth it to do a mattress run to get the points. It really depends on your offer and hotel prices.
How will you be maximizing your bonus points?
