The Hyatt Credit Card offer has been pretty stagnant since the day it was released. With this offer you’ll receive 2 free nights at ANY hyatt hotel worldwide. There just has to be a standard room available and the free night is yours. No other restrictions or exclusions, although the free nights do expire a year after they are issued. A very straightforward offer that is great if you are looking to stay at a top tier property. With the current award chart, a top hotel (category 7) requires 30,000 points for a free night award, so essentially this offer can be worth up to 60,000 hyatt points. You can learn more about the various credit card offers here.

But the offer is changing!

On June 29, 2017, the Hyatt credit card sign up offer will be changing. Instead of getting 2 free nights, you’ll receive 40,000 Hyatt points. The $2,000 minimum spend to receive the sign up offer will stay the same as well as the other card benefits, such as the annual free night at any category 1-4 hotel, Hyatt Discoverist status, and the $75 annual fee (not waived the first year).

So which offer is better? Should you apply now or wait?

Both offer are pretty solid, but the better offer depends on the type of hotels you like to stay at. The two free nights is better for those that like to stay at top tier Category 6 or Category 7 hotels. That is being those hotels cost 25,000-30,000 points a night making the sign up offer worth 50,000-60,000 points. If you would prefer to use the points at Category 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 hotels, then the 40,000 point offer is better. This will then allow you to get 2 or more free nights out of the sign up bonus. And remember, the 40,000 points you receive do not expire, unlike the 1 year expiration date with the 2 free night offer. Lastly, if you prefer to redeem points + cash for a free night, the points will suit you better then free night certificates.

Some desirable Category 6 and 7 hotels include:

  • Park Hyatt Beaver Creek Resort and Spa
  • Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa
  • Park Hyatt St. Kitts
  • Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort Spa and Casino
  • Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme
  • Park Hyatt Zurich
  • Park Hyatt Tokyo
  • Park Hyatt Sydney
  • Andaz London Liverpool Street
  • Park Hyatt New York
  • Andaz 5th Avenue
  • Hyatt Union Square New York
  • Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort
  • Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa

Additionally, the free nights work at the relatively new Hyatt all-inclusive properties! And, the free night includes 2 adults + 2 kids. So, if you are are looking to stay at a Ziva or Zilara property that will cost you 25,000 points/night or more (remember, you are supposed to pay for every child over 2), the 2 free nights will be much better then the 40,00 points!

While the above list includes the most expensive properties on points, there are also some amazing high end properties that for whatever reason do not require as many points, thus making the 40,000 point offer more desirable. A few more popular ones include: Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa (category 5), Hyatt House New York/Chelsea (category 5), Hyatt Centric Park City (category 5), Grand Hyatt Baha Mar (category 5), Hyatt Centric Fisherman’s Wharf San Francisco (category 4), Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort and Spa (category 4), Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa (category 4), and Andaz Peninsula Papagayo Resort (category 4). You can check out all hotel categories here: Category 1, Category 2, Category 3, Category 4, Category 5, Category 6, Category 7.

This card does not fall under the “5/24” rule!

For whatever reason, this is one of the few Chase cards that is not subject to the “5/24” rule. This means that if you’ve been approved for 5 or more cards within the past 24 months you can still be approved for this card! Although, if you

Overall…

Both are great offers to get free hotel nights at Hyatt properties, but the better offer just depends on your hotel habits. Those looking for a high end stay should sign up before June 29, 2017 and get the 2 free nights. Those looking to stay at a category 5 or below, or do not want an expiration date tied to the bonus offer should wait and sign up later with the 40,000 point bonus.
