Hyatt just brought back a status challenge for those looking to earn Platinum or Diamond status. It is very straight forward and open to everyone – there is no requirement where you need to have status with another hotel loyalty program which is quite nice!
- To earn Platinum status: Stay 6 nights within 60 days
- To earn Diamond status: Stay 12 nights within 60 days
For those with many upcoming Hyatt stays, I highly recommend planning in advance to see if you’ll hit the 12 nights within 60 days. If so, I suggest calling the day prior to your first stay since the 60 days starts immediately upon registering. You can register by calling Hyatt directly (1800-323-7249).
Some things to know:
- You can register for this challenge at any point between now and April 30, 2016
- Once you earn status (either Platinum or Diamond), you’ll maintain that status until February 28, 2017
- If you already have Platinum status, you can still register for the Diamond challenge
- You will not be given the four suite upgrade certificates until after you earn Diamond status (this is a change from last years challenge were you received them immediately)
- You will not be given immediate Platinum or Diamond status until you reach the required nights (again, this is a change form last years challenge where you received Diamond status immediately)
Personally, I wouldn’t go out of my way to earn Platinum status, although if you happen to be staying at a Hyatt hotel you might as well. Diamond status, on the other hand, is great and definitely well worth it! With Diamond status you’ll get a 30% bonus on all points earned, 4pm late checkout, and lounge access (or full breakfast if there is no club lounge).
Remember, this is also a pretty decent Hyatt summer promotion going on as we speak, so that can help you earn a ton of points while going through this “challenge”.

Thanks for the information, particularly about the lack of suite upgrades. I’ve already signed up, and had big plans for the suite upgrades. While it’s bad that the offer is worse than expected, better to know in advance.
@Christian – Good news, you do receive the suite upgrades once you earn the status. I was originally given the incorrect info from Hyatt, but have now been given the correct information.
Do you get the status during the ‘challenge’ period, or only once you meet the stay requirement?
@Matt – You do not receive the status until you meet the stay requirements.
I hadn’t seen anything about the lack of getting the suite upgrades. Is that just initially after completion or would you not receive them next March as well?
@JDH – Sorry, that was incorrect information I was given from Hyatt, but have now been given the correct information. You will receive them once you meet the challenge.
Do nights that are booked on points & cash count?
@Jessica – Yes!
🙂 That’s the answer I wanted to hear!
Hi this site is great and looking forward to the next Hyatt discounted gift cards.
As for this diamond challenge promotion, how many nights are needed to diamond, if you are already have platinum status? Thank you.
@Mitchell – You’ll still need 12 nights. You are welcome!
I currently am Diamond but am not on track to earn it after February, 2016. However, I would be able to maintain it via the status challenge. Do you know if it works on people that are currently Diamond?
@Janet – Unfortunately the challenge is not available for those currently with Diamond status.
Can Diamonds (current) still sign up for this promotion to retain Diamond status?
@bob – Unfortunately not.
Hi dealswelike,
Do I get suite upgrade for award night? E.g. Can I redeem 30K pts for Park Hyatt Sydney and get free suite upgrade? Thanks
@Ryan – Unfortunately you cannot use the suite upgrades when redeeming points.
I had done the Diamomd challenge in the past. I no longer have the Diamond status. Do you know whether I can still participate in this challenge?
@Tommy – Yes you can.
My husband just qualified for the challenge by staying his 12th night within 90 days of registering for it. However it shows that his Diamond membership expires February, 2016. I just called the Diamond Gold Passport desk and was told that that is correct. Since this was part of the challenge it expires February, 2016. The terms and conditions referenced above say February 2017 but they are wrong. It was my fault for not verifying with Hyatt that it would expire February 2017 when I signed him up for the promotion. Do not trust what you read in blogs. Always verify first. Lesson learned…
@Janet – I recently completed the challenge myself and it expires February 28, 2017. I truly do believe there was an error on your account as this challenge 100% gives you status through February 2017. I’d email Hyatt Gold Passport and call again to inquire.
Also, just want to make sure – did you register for this challenge post June 1, 2015?
I called twice and was told “no”. Then I tweeted @HyattConcierge and it was fixed within minutes! (This was my first Twitter experience but someone else said to tweet it so I learned how.) My husband’s Diamond expiration date is now 2/17. Thanks!
@Janet – Glad it got worked out! Hoping that you’ll continue to trust blogs!
Hi, can we still register for Hyatt Diamond Challenge?
I called and was told it doesn’t exist.
I just called Hyatt and the woman said this offer doesn’t exist.
