On August 1st, Hyatt is changing the hotel categories for some select hotels and overall it is not too bad. There are a total of 106 hotels changing, and it is close to a 50/50 split with the number of hotels going up and down. While there are a handful of great hotels going up a category, there are also an equivalent number going down a category that many Hyatt members will thoroughly enjoy.
As long as you make future reservations for hotels that are going up in value, you will be locked in at today’s rate. If, however, you need to change your reservation to another date, chances are you’ll have to pay the higher number of points.
Here is a list of all the 106 hotels moving categories, but I have listed on some more of the popular hotels (in my opinion of course!) going up or down.
Popular hotels going down a category (this is a good thing!)
- Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort:Â moving from a category 5 to category 4
- Hyatt Centric South Beach Miami: moving from a category 6 to category 4
- Hyatt Place Los Cabos: moving from a category 2 to category 1
- Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort: moving from a category 4 to 3
Popular hotels going up a category (this is a NOT good thing)
- Hyatt Centric Park City (hotel at the base of The Canyons Mountain!): moving from a category 4 to category 5
- Hyatt Centric The Loop Chicago:Â moving from a category 4 to category 5
- Hyatt Regency Jersey City:Â moving from a category 4 to category 5
- Hyatt Regency San Francisco:Â moving from a category 4 to category 5
- Hyatt House San Juan: moving from a category 2 to 3
- Hyatt Place Dewey Beach: moving from a category 3 to 4
You can until July 31, 2016 to book hotels changing categories at the current number of points and you can usually book 364 days out. So if you have any speculation that you are going to Park City, Chicago, Jersey City, San Fran, San Juan, or Dewey Beach (or any other city where the hotel is going up a category) and thinking about these hotels, book now! You can always cancel later (just make sure to pay attention to the cancellation terms). Remember, any hotel that is currently a category 1-4 can be booked using the annual free night certificate from the Hyatt credit card. So right now, for example, might be a great time to book a night at the Hyatt Centric Park City for ski season! For the past few years this has actually been one of the best deals for a nice ski hotel.
Where will you be booking?!
