The IHG Rewards Club Select credit card has increased its publicly available offer where you now earn 80,000 points after spending $1,000 on the card within the first three months. Typically, this card has offered 60,000 points, so an extra 20,000 points is great! It has been quite some time since I’ve seen this good of an offer and even then it wasn’t publicly available. You can learn more about credit card offers here.

A Card to Keep Year After Year

I personally applied for the IHG Rewards Club Select credit card a few years ago and I really think it is one of the best credit cards available! It is one that everyone should have on their portfolio and hold onto year after year. While the yearly annual fee is $49 (waived the first year), you get a free night at ANY IHG hotel every single anniversary year. My husband applied for the card at the same day I did, so we have two nights to use at any high end InterContinental hotel (or any other hotel under the umbrella) for $99 total. I personally think it is well worth it and even if I am only able to use it at a lower end hotel, I’ll still be ahead.

Just last week my two free nights were used at the InterContinental Mark Hopkins in San Francisco where rates were over $300/night! So staying those two nights for only $49 a night was well worth it!

Applied During a Lower Offer?

If you’ve recently applied for this card during the 60,000 point offer, I highly suggest sending Chase a secure message asking them to math the current offer. Chase is typically good with this as long as you’ve applied for the card within the past 90 days, although no guarantee.

Overall…

This is an excellent card to have, although not really one I’d use for everyday spending. On top of the sign up bonus and free night certificate after your first anniversary year, you also receive automatic Platinum status. While I do not put much value on IHG Platinum status, it is still a nice to have when staying at an IHG hotel. And having IHG Platinum status does get you 6 cents off a gallon of gas when you link your Fuel Rewards account to your IHG account! And lastly, if you are a cardmember, you’ll receive 10% of your points back when you redeem for a free night. This card by far has some of the best perks amongst all the hotel credit cards!

This card is also NOT subject to Chase’s “5/24” rule, so even if you’ve applied for more then 5 cards in the past 24 months, you are still eligible to get the sign up bonus for this card! You can learn more about the Chase “5/24†rule here.

I got an IHG card the last time they offered 80,000 points and told my husband that we would get a 2nd one as soon as the offer became available again. That was almost 2 years ago. My advice is to jump on this if you have ever considered getting one of these cards. We will be taking advantage of a night at a resort in Daytona this month as our annual reward night.

The advice to link this to your Shell fuel rewards is a good one. There are additional discounts if you spend money on categories such as groceries that will give you additional 5-10 cents per gallon. In our case, the grocery store sells Shell gas cards at a 20% discount about once a month. Between them both, we save over 20% on each gallon.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I’ll get the application started!
