I’m Taking One for the Team and Testing Out Wyndham’s No Show Policy

I’ve probably written more about Wyndham in this past week then I have in the past 5 years, but there is a really good reason for that – they are running a pretty awesome promotion where you’ll earn 7,500 points per stay (up to 2 stays, so 15,000 points). On top of that, many members were targeted for a 10,000 point promotion after 1 stay (a one-time only promo). If eligible, you’ll earn a total of 17,500 points after your 1st stay and a total of 25,000 points after your 2nd stay. Wyndham only requires 15,000 points for a free night, so to get 17,500 points after just 1 stay is pretty awesome. Especially if you can find an incredible cheap property!

The question is – do no-show stays earn regular points and bonus points (related post). Based on their terms, you’ll earn regular points, but not the bonus points. But I am not actually certain that is the case. I truly do believe that bonus points will be triggered, but I actually do not have any personal experience to back that up. My last no-show stay with Wyndham was back in 2012 and I can tell you that 5 years ago no-show stays DID generate both regular and bonus points.

The terms state: “If the Participating Property requires a credit card for a reservation, the Member is a no-show, and the Participating Property charges his/her credit card for the first night of the no-show stay at the applicable rate (which rate matches or exceeds the Minimum Total Rate), such night will be deemed a Qualified Stay and the Member will receive base points or Travel Partner Currency, as applicable, for such night as if he/she had stayed, but will not receive any bonus points or bonus Travel Partner Currency available in connection with any promotion that may be offered at the time of the Qualified Stay (“Promotional Points†or “Promotional Travel Partner Currencyâ€, as applicable).â€

Since it seems like no one truly knows the answer from recent experience, I figured I’d test it out myself. I’m taking one for the team and serving as the guinea pig. I have gone ahead and made a reservation this week which will only cost me $39.84 including tax. If you’ve found an even cheaper stay, feel free to email me!a blue screen with white text

While I hate to waste money (trust me!), I figured it it doesn’t work then this is not a huge loss. And then I’ll be able to share my personal experience with all of you so you can plan your upcoming mattress run at a Wyndham hotel properly. I’ll be sure to report back as soon as possible!

If your test case is successful, are you at liberty to disclose the property name? Reason I ask is because it may be YMMV based on property – I would much rather book the exact same property as you to increase my odds.

Thought I had one in Vegas, but the $25 room had $24 taxes and fees.

If yours isn’t the lowest, it’s close.

I got lucky in that I have a trip to the boondocks Labor Day weekend, so my choice was a wheelbarrow of Hilton or IHG pts or $180 for 2 Wyn hotels for the 2 nights needed, so I booked a Super8 and a Days Inn and Travelers Advantage will send me a $50 check for trying them out so its $131 and I save on having to use my pts and get the 15k in Wyn pts which will take care of the $131

But awaiting to see what happens with your res for the next time they run something

Several Wyndhams in ST Louis around $40-$50 but they require risking life and limb by traveling into the Ferganistan district.

Lol I think you would really be “taking one for the team” if you’d actually STAY at the $39 Wyndham.
LoyaltyTraveler is a regular with Wyndham and has checked into the hotel in person for the stay and then left, apparently always getting his points…
I tried out Wyndham last year, the similar Visa promotion worked great, but the hotels were less convincing, even the ones more than $39…

I have booked hotel stays, checked-in, looked at the room, snapped a couple of photos and left solely to earn hotel points or elite qualifying stays and nights. Last year I booked two Choice Hotels on consecutive nights near my home in Monterey.

I needed 8,000 points and I paid about $40 all-in per night. Those 8,000 points allowed me to book other PointsPlusCash reservations, and build up my account balance buying points and canceling the reservations before the stays. Two Choice Hotels stays cost less than buying 8,000 points through Choice Privileges. Those 2 nights also helped me earn Choice Privileges Platinum elite status with 20 hotel nights in 2016.

I have actually stayed the night in all the Wyndham brand hotels I booked and paid.

I stayed in Days Inn Riga VEF, Latvia in April for 2 nights on a 28 EUR rate to earn nearly 4,000 Wyndham Rewards points. The room was basic and perfectly adequate. My main complaint was a private party happening in the ballroom on the floor above me with thundering bass vibrating the walls and preventing me from being able to sleep.

I probably would have been far less annoyed if the Latvians had not refused to let me into the private party after I went up to find out what the hell was going on at midnight.

The regular points and 10K bonus posted, simultaneously, within 3 days of checkout. Six days after that, still awaiting the 7500 Masterpass bonus.

I assume the 7500 Masterpass Bonus never posted?
