JetBlue has brought back their “Go Packs” which give you a certain number of one way flights for a fixed cost depending on the route purchased. These “Go Packs” are available for purchase through March 31, 2014 (although they could sell out prior to this date) and can be used for travel through June 17, 2014 (with black out dates being April 11-28).
What Go Packs are available?
- Intra-Californa Go Pack 6: 6 one-way flights between Long Beach and San Francisco/Oakland/Sacramento.
- What is the cost? $697 + $7 gov’t taxes/fees per one-way flight booked
- Is it worthwhile? This means that each one way has a fixed cost of $123. This is a lot for this route as you can purchase tickets as low as $51. However, if you typically book last minute tickets for the next day then this can provide you with some significant savings. Probably best for the business traveler who finds out about last minute meetings a day or two ahead of time.
- Intra-California Go Pack 10: 10 one-way flights between Long Beach and San Francisco/Oakland/Sacramento.
- What is the cost? $999 + $7 gov’t taxes/fees per one-way flight booked
- Is it worthwhile? The 10 pack will bring each one way flight down to $107. Still expensive, but maybe not for those last minute business travelers to the Bay Area.
- JFK North Go Pack 6: 6 one-way flights between JFK and Rochester/Buffalo/Syracuse/Burlington, VT/Portland, ME.
- What is the cost? $797 + $7 gov’t taxes/fees per one-way flight booked
- Is it worthwhile? This means each flight will cost you $140. Still slightly more expensive then your typical one way flight.
- JFK North Go Pack 10: 10 one-way flights between JFK and and Rochester/Buffalo/Syracuse/Burlington, VT/Portland, ME.
- What is the cost? $1,199 + $7 gov’t taxes/fees per one-way flight booked
- Is it worthwhile? This will cost you $127 for each flight. For those looking to travel a bunch of Fridays and Sundays this could save you money. Also, for those who are booking last minute flights you could see some cost savings
- NYC-Florida Go Pack 6: 6 one-way flights between JFK/LGA/EWR to Ft. Lauderdale/West Palm Beach/Ft. Myers/Orlando, between JFK and Jacksonville, between JFK/LGA and Sarasota
- What is the cost? $1,197 + $7 gov’t taxes/fees per one-way flight booked
- Is it worthwhile? This will cost you $206.5 per flight, which I think it way too expensive! If you are able to plan your travel slightly ahead of time you should absolutely be able to get a flight for way less than $400. I searched for a Friday and Sunday departure for the first week of April and was able to see flights as low as $154 for a non-stop flight to Ft. Myers. For flexible travel you can get flights for $99 one-way. This is very expensive in my opinion, but if you are one that wants to plan a day ahead of time and ensure you can lock yourself into a fixed rate, then this could be worthwhile as last minute flights can cost you about $300+ each way.
- BOS-WAS Go Pack 6: 6 one-way flights between Boston and DCA/IAD/BWI.
- What is the cost? $897 + $7 gov’t taxes/fees per one-way flight booked
- Is it worthwhile? This is way too expensive in my opinion at $156.50 per flight.
- BOS-WAS Go Pack 10: 10 one-way flights between Boston and DCA/IAD/BWI.
- What is the cost? $1,299 + $7 gov’t taxes/fees per one-way flight booked
- Is it worthwhile? This is slightly better than the 6 pack as it comes to $140 per flight. Only worthwhile for the last minute business traveler, but remember, you need to commit yourself to 5 roundtrips in the time period.
Overall, I do not think these Go Packs are worthwhile for the normal traveler. They are only worthwhile for those who take last minute business trips and want to lock in a semi-reasonable rate in advance. The good thing about these Go Packs though is they are transferable, so you can purchase one 10-pack for instance and split it amongst as many people as you’d like. However, only the person who purchases the Go Pack will be eligible for the JetBlue points received (you earn anywhere between 6,000 and 7,800 TrueBlue points for purchasing a JetBlue).
Keep in mind that these are non-refundable and if you do not use the entire amount of flights in the Go Pack purchased you are out of luck. These flights work just the same as any other purchased JetBlue flight where a $75 change fee applies and if you need to cancel you will lose one of the flights from the Go Pack. Also, if you are a “no show” you will forfeit the flight voucher and it cannot be refunded or used at another time.
