Last month JetBlue announced an awesome status challenge opportunity where you can earn Mosaic Status through December 31, 2018. All you have to do is earn 3,750 BASE points within 90 days of registering (and you must register by August 14, 2017). Even if you are not 100% sure if you’ll actually be able to earn those amount of points, you might as well register. And if you have status on another airline, you can sign up for their match program which will at least give you status through the end of this year.

The keyword here is BASE points! With JetBlue you earn 3 base points for every dollar spent. So to earn 3,750 points, you must spend $1,250 directly with JetBlue on flights (and actually fly them). But this is PRE-TAX. You do not earn JetBlue points on the taxes paid for a ticket, and they can sometimes be up to 30% of the fare (for international flights, much less for domestic flights). So this $311 ticket from below will really only earn you 789 points, since the fare pre-tax is $263.

And then this sample flight to Cancun is comprised of 27% tax!a screenshot of a phone

Just make sure to keep this all in mind if you are able to meet the challenge terms. I’d hate for you to think you spent exactly $1,250 and unexpectedly not earn the status. If you are flying all domestic flights during this challenge period, you’ll have to spend more like $1,500+ on JetBlue flights (with taxes included).
