This is a reminder that the sign up offer for the Hyatt Credit Card is changing tomorrow, June 29th! That means you have just a few hours to apply for the current offer to earn the 2 free nights after spending $2,000 on the card within the first 3 months. Starting tomorrow, the offer will change to 40,000 bonus points after meeting the same spend requirement. Both offers are good and it really comes down to which offer will work better for you.

2 free nights…

The 2 free nights are valid at ANY Hyatt hotel worldwide, including their all inclusive properties. So this means if you are looking to stay a top tier Category 6 or 7 hotel, such as the Park Hyatt Beaver Creek, Park Hyatt Maldives, Park Hyatt St. Kitts, Park Hyatt New York (just a few examples), you’ll do much better off with the 2 free night offer. A Category 7 hotel requires 30,000 points per night, while a Category 6 property requires 25,000 points per night. This means the 2 free nights can be worth 50,000-60,000 points, which is much better then the 40,000 point offer you’ll see tomorrow. Additionally, reports have shown that the all-inclusive properties do not require you to pay the extra point requirement for 2 additional guests in the room, so you could potentially get a 100,000 point value at these properties! Related post. There are no real restrictions, there just has to be a standard room available and the free night is yours! They also have a 1 year expiration date from the time they are issued.

Everything else about the card is staying the same…

While the bonus offer is changing, everything else about the card is staying the same. This means you’ll still receive a free night category 1-4 night certificate after every anniversary year and Hyatt Discoverist status. For my personally, the free night certificate is a huge reason to have the card and keep year after year and more then pays for the $75 annual fee.

So which offer is better? Should you apply now or wait?

As I mentioned above, both offer are pretty solid, but the better offer depends on the type of hotels you like to stay at. The two free nights is better for those that like to stay at top tier Category 6 or Category 7 hotels as you’ll get 50,000-60,000 worth of points. If you would prefer to use the points at Category 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 hotels, then the 40,000 point offer is better. This will then allow you to get 2 or more free nights out of the sign up bonus. And remember, the 40,000 points you receive do not expire, unlike the 1 year expiration date with the 2 free night offer. Lastly, if you prefer to redeem points + cash for a free night, the points will suit you better then free night certificates.

Some desirable Category 6 and 7 hotels include:

  • Park Hyatt Beaver Creek Resort and Spa
  • Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa
  • Park Hyatt St. Kitts
  • Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort Spa and Casino
  • Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme
  • Park Hyatt Zurich
  • Park Hyatt Tokyo
  • Park Hyatt Sydney
  • Andaz London Liverpool Street
  • Park Hyatt New York
  • Andaz 5th Avenue
  • Hyatt Union Square New York
  • Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort
  • Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa

While the above list includes the most expensive properties on points, there are also some amazing high end properties that for whatever reason do not require as many points, thus making the 40,000 point offer more desirable. A few more popular ones include: Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa (category 5), Hyatt House New York/Chelsea (category 5), Hyatt Centric Park City (category 5), Grand Hyatt Baha Mar (category 5), Hyatt Centric Fisherman’s Wharf San Francisco (category 4), Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort and Spa (category 4), Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa (category 4), and Andaz Peninsula Papagayo Resort (category 4). You can check out all hotel categories here: Category 1, Category 2, Category 3, Category 4,Category 5, Category 6, Category 7.

This card does not fall under the “5/24†rule!

For whatever reason, this is one of the few Chase cards that is not subject to the “5/24†rule. This means that if you’ve been approved for 5 or more cards within the past 24 months you can still be approved for this card! Although, if you are a current cardholder or have received this offer within the past 24 months, you are not eligible to receive the offer again.

Overall…

Both are great offers to get free hotel nights at Hyatt properties, but the better offer just depends on your hotel habits. Those looking for a high end stay should sign up before TONIGHT and get the 2 free nights. Those looking to stay at a category 5 or below, or do not want an expiration date tied to the bonus offer should wait and sign up later with the 40,000 point bonus.
