If you were/are a big Club Carlson fan, you probably remember the amazing benefit that came with the Club Carlson credit card. Use your points and get a buy one get one on ALL hotel rooms an UNLIMITED number of times. That was probably one of the best credit card benefits of all times. It was actually too good and was eventually taken away as one of the perks of the credit card. Because of this benefit loss, Club Carlson gave every credit card holder a free night to use at any of their hotels worldwide. While it definitely did not make up for the loss of the BOGO benefit, it was a nice gesture of Club Carlson.
For those that received this free night certificate, this is a quick reminder that it expires August 31, 2016. That means you must stay by this date, not just book by the expiration date.
To check to see if you have a free night in your account:
Once you sign into your account on ClubCarlson.com go to “My Account” on the left-hand side of the page.
Scroll all the way down the page and you’ll see all “E-Certs” you have available. This particular certificate is called “Club Carlson Visa Global Free Night-August 2015”. If nothing appears and you believe you should have received the free night certificate last year, I suggest calling Club Carlson.
I whited out the code as they are unique per account, but that is the code you will use when making a reservation. When making a reservation, include “USBANKEC” in the promotional code field and your unique code given in the E-Cert in the “E-Cert Code” field.
You’ll then see all available hotels in the city you are looking to stay at. The hotel night will be 100% free, although if the hotel has a resort fee (only at a few properties), you might be required to pay that. E-certificates are capacity controlled (same availability as point redemption), but overall you should see good availability. There are also no exclusions, so all hotels are fair game!
Between all family members that received this free night certificate, we have redeemed 3 out of the 4 certificates. While none of the stays were at aspirational hotels, it saved us some money in cities were we had to pay for a hotel room anyways. Now I just need to find another need for our remaining 1 night free certificate! Might even be a nice kid free “staycation” at the closet Club Carlson property!
Where did you use your free night certificate?

I’m having trouble using mine since there seem to be blackout dates at least at the hotel I’m trying to use mine at (Radisson Martinique in NYC)
No, it is best to call them. There is a special code that gets whipped out if you booked a room, canceled and then try to use the certificate again. I had the same problem with blackouts always showing. Once I called the rep gave me the code and it was available
The expiration date varies based on when the cardholder requested it. Mine does not expire until 10/31 because they took their time dealing with my account. A good time to check the expiration anyway!
Mine does not expire until 12/31/2016!!
@David – That is AMAZING!
I agree with Dan, I’ve just about given up trying to use mine, nothing is available even at mediocre hotels.
Just used mine in Sydney and we were upgraded to a business class suite. Almost forgot about it!
How did you like Sidney and the Carlson. Planning to continue from there to Cairns without staying the night.
Just stayed 7-16 in Sydney Radisson Blu and Suites was fine. We got upgraded to the same. It’s a huge room and we’re going back. It’s not fancy and we came from a fancy place, but it was doable. We’re doing PHS and Radisson Blu 11-16.
Chicago Blue Aqua at beginning of July to see Guns n Roses at Soldier Field!
Blu*
Whoop-de-do-Radisson in Freehold, NJ. I have a long commute normally-closer to office than home. Tried to use E-cert at Mayfair in London-unsuccessful after much arguing!
Was it because of no availability or they said it was not valid there? Mine was actually being used for there until I cancelled it to apply it to a different hotel.
