The other day I posted a about a great promotion with Amex Express Checkout. This new payment option is available for select retailers and is a similar concept as Visa Checkout and Paypal payment option. All you need to do is sign into your AmericanExpress.com account and select the card you want to pay. It will then automatically gather all your credit card information which means you do not have to have your credit card on hand and manually type in the information to pay.
As I mentioned previously, this promotion will give you a $10 statement credit just by using this feature through September 7, 2015. The terms stated that it was a one time credit per account, but I went ahead and tested it out on two cards links to the same card and had great success. I purchased two $10 gift cards (during separate transactions) on July 12, and on July 15 (although it states July 14th on my statement), I received the statement credit on my account. This means that the promotion is available per American Express credit card!
Now, the best part of this promotion is that you can ultimately receive the $10 statement credit per participating merchant per American Express credit card. The participating merchants include:
- barkbox.com
- us.burberry.com
- laithwaiteswine.com
- ledbury.com
- newegg.com
- sabon.com
- ticketmaster.com
- virginwines.com
- warbyparker.com
- wsj.com
- wsjwine.com
While I had great success getting the $10 statement credit on a $10 purchase, Dan’s Deals reports that the $10 statement credit works on a purchase less than $10 as well! So if you are able to find a 1 penny item, you can make $9.99, for example! I personally prefer purchasing the Newegg gift cards to at least put money in their pocket, but if you are able to find a cheap item, go for it!
Taking advantage of the promotion per merchant
As I mentioned, you can take advantage of this offer per merchant. I’ve gone through every merchant and have detailed out the best way to maximize:
BarkBox:Â There are no money making opportunities hear, but if you subscribe to barkbox anyways, this is a great way to save some money. I also cannot find anywhere on the site to purchase a gift card.
Burberry:Â Items on burberry definitely are not inexpensive! If you were going to purchase an item great, but if not there is no way to “make money”. You can, however, purchase a $50 gift card (the lowest denomination option) with each Amex card and get a $10 statement credit.
Laithwaite’s Wine: While there are a few bottles of wine for $9.99, shipping will add another $20 making it not worth it. Good opportunity to save money if you are interested in some sort of monthly wine club, but other wise nothing to take advantage of. Currently, there are no gift card options either.
Ledbury:Â Currently Ledbury gift cards are only available in $50 denominations, but apparently a few days ago they were as low as $1. Hopefully these lower amounts will return at some point. There are no inexpensive items on the site.
Newegg:Â Purchase the cheapest item you can find, some items are less than $1. Or, to ensure your order doesn’t get canceled and to make life easy, just purchase a $10 gift card to your favorite merchant. Many merchants, for example, Home Depot, do not allow you to purchase more than one gift card within a 48 hour period. So spread out your purchases. Here is a sample list of some popular $10 gift card options:
- Kohl’s
- Columbia
- Burlington Coat Factory
- Kmart
- Land’s End
- Foot Locker
- Overstock
- Gap
- Lord & Taylor
- Old Navy
- Banana Republic
- JC Penney
- The Home Depot
- Groupon
- Chili’s
- Cold Stone Creamery
- Applebees
- Buffalo Wild Wings
- Cheesecake Factory
- Maggiano’s
- On the Border
- CVS
- Brookstone
- Barnes &Â Nobles
- Sports Authority
- Cabela’s
- Regal Movies
- AMC Theater
Sabon: Shipping is only free on purchases of $100+, so you are best off purchasing a gift card. They sell $10 gift cards, although right now they seem to be out of stock. I’ll make sure to let you all know when they are back in stock. It seems like they must have been quite overwhelmed with the number of gift cards that have been purchased in the past few days! This way you can purchase a $10 gift card with all eligible Amex cards, ultimately costing you nothing. You can then use these gift cards in-store to avoid shipping costs. Also, make sure to join the Sabon Club to earn 1 point for every $10 purchase (which equals an extra dollar!).Â
Ticketmaster:Â Make a donation for an amount less than $10 to receive the $10 statement credit and ultimately make money. Donation options change often, but right now there is an option to donate $5 to a Belly Dance event. Donate $5 and you’ll receive a $10 statement credit which means you’ll make $5 per eligible Amex credit card. You can always hold off a few weeks to see if any “cheaper” options appear as well. Or, if you were going to purchase event tickets anyways, this is a good way to save $10!
Virgin Wines:Â Great if you were going to make a purchase anyways and you can save $10, but no real money making opportunity.
WarbyParker:Â Again, great to save $10 if you were going to make a purchase. Gift card options start at $50. If you are looking to make an expensive purchase, purchase multiple $50 gift cards to then use in a single transaction. That is assuming you have multiple eligible Amex credit cards.
The Wall Street Journal: No money making opportunities, just a good way to save money if you are looking to subscribe or already subscribe. Although back in May they had an option to pay just $2 for a 2 month subscription. You could then cancel the subscription when they two months was over. If this type of sale comes again, this means you can make $8 per Amex card. I’ll be sure to let you all know if something like this appears again. Right now the current special is 12 weeks for $12. That means you can get 3 months of the WSJ for just $2 if you desire – just make sure to cancel afterwards!
WSJ Wine:Â Like all the other Wine sites, there are no money making opportunities and shipping is expensive for one bottle of wine. Currently, no gift card options either.
Overall…
There are definitely some merchants available where you can get free items or make some money! I highly suggest taking advantage of Newegg and Ticketmaster. Then once Ledbury and Sabon gift cards come back in stock, take advantage of those opportunities! Other than that, getting the $10 statement credit at the remaining merchants will just save you money, which is still great!
Feel free to report back with what you find! Enjoy making and saving money!

I took that out of the post when I saw it myself but I guess not! Thanks for letting me know it’s still in there. Post has been updated.
Glad a post came up after i left a comment last time with info. I guess i will say thanks to myself for extending info to help readers on a page that was not updated but alright then. Lost me as a reader.
Seems there is an issue with sabon. Anyone else getting the error when adding a gc to the cart?
Working my way through NewEgg – but only three of my five Amex cards come up in the checkout box. Any guess why?
