UPDATE: These offers have expired.

Today is the big Marriott Bonvoy day! This is now the new name of their loyalty program and all their co-branded credit cards will also be adopting this name. It is also the day where Marriott has consolidated their entire credit card portfolio post the merger. While I am not a fan of the new name, I am a fan of the new increased credit card offers! You’ll now be able to earn 100,000 points on two of their credit cards—Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card and Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express Card. Both cards require the same minimum spend to earn the bonus points and will be available through April 24, 2019. Of course if you already have the previous version of the two cards, you are not eligible due to American Express’s once in a lifetime policy and they are not being considered new products.

Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express

Formerly known as the Starwood Preferred Guest American Express Luxury card, this is the higher end card out of the group and offers many benefits that you will not receive with the other cards. Remember though, this card does come with a $450 annual fee.

Card Benefits

$300 statement credit: You can receive up to $300 in statement credits per year for purchases made directly at participating SPG or Marriott hotels. You can use this credit towards the cost of the hotel room or any incidentals put on your hotel bill. All you have to do is put the charge on your credit card and you’ll automatically receive the credit. And even if you use points to pay for your room, this can still cover incidental charges. With this statement credit, this theoretically brings the annual fee down to just $150.

Free night award: While all Marriott and SPG cards will come with a free night award, the one coming with this card can be used at more properties due to the higher cap. After every anniversary with the card, you’ll receive a free night that can be used at a hotel up to 50,000 points. For a standard room, this means you can stay up to a category 6 which is most likely over $250 a night (and in many cases even more). a chart with numbers and text

Elite status: This card comes with automatic Gold Elite status and if you spend $75,000 on the card within a calendar year you’ll be bumped up to Platinum Elite status.

Lounge access: This card comes with Priority Pass Select Airport lounge access which is a very popular benefit with credit card these days. This will allow you and 2 guests free access to participating lounges. A great benefit if you do not already have a card that comes with this benefit, but theres a good chances you already have this access.

Complimentary global entry: You will receive a statement credit for the $100 Global Entry fee. You can receive this statement credit once every four years. All you have to do is put the application fee on your credit card and you’ll see the statement credit. If you already have Global Entry you can use it for someone else.

Card Benefits

Earning points: This card will actually earn you the following points for your purchases:

  • 6x points at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels
  • 4x points at U.S. restaurants, at U.S. gas stations, on wireless telephone services purchased directly from U.S. service providers and on U.S. purchases for shipping
  • 2x points on all other eligible purchases

Free night award: This particular card will give you a free night to use annually, but capped at a hotel costing up to 35,000 Marriott Bonvoy points. For me personally, I have always been able to get a decent value for my free night certificates making the annual fee well worth it.

Silver status: Just having this card will give you complimentary Bonvoy Silver Elite status. Plus, you can earn Gold Elite status after making $35,000 in eligible purchases on your card in a calendar year. I personally do not put much value on Silver status (although something is better than nothing), and I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to spend that much on the card simply for Gold status.

Overall…

I am glad to see Marriott moving forward with finally integrating their new name, logo, and credit cards into one program. I am also happy to see the 100,000 point offers available again. While these are by no means earth shattering offers, they are probably the highest you’ll see (at least publicly available) and a great way to increase your Marriott points to redeem for a free night stay.
