Last year, Marriott announced a one time only opportunity to earn Marriott Lifetime Platinum Premier Elite status. Once 2019 hit, the opportunity to earn this status for life went away and instead you’d have to earn it on a yearly basis. Of course, you can still earn Lifetime Silver, Lifetime Gold, and Lifetime Platinum, but grabbing a one time opportunity for that next tier level is pretty huge. Fortunately, due to practically living at Marriott properties right after college and then logging a decent amount of Starwood stays later on, I was able to secure this status due to my accounts being combined.

Marriott said that status levels would be updated in January, but the technology side on the merger was pretty bad to say the least. Many stays weren’t posting properly, although it looks like that might have been corrected for some accounts mid-January, account balances weren’t even close to accurate for many, and just overall many issues. There was no way in my mind that I thought my account would actually be updated by Marriott’s doing in January without me having to make a phone call.

Use your Marriott status to get complimentary breakfast, hopefully upgraded rooms, and bonus points.

Well, it seems like Marriott proved us all wrong on this one. Over the weekend, all accounts that earned this this one shot lifetime status had their accounts updated. If you believe you were supposed to earn this status, definitely sign into your account to make sure your account reflects your newly earned status. If your account does not show this updated status and you believe it should, I suggest reaching out to Marriott immediately. You can either send them a message via Twitter or call them.

While I am definitely excited to have this new status, I am really not sure it will mean much more then having regular Platinum status. The main benefit is that I will now receive a 75% bonus instead of a 50% bonus on all points earned and I’ll have United Premier Silver status. Since I typically use points for my Marriott stays and hardly ever fly United, the status doesn’t really provide me much value, but it is always good to have in my back pocket.

Of course once Marriott fully rebrands to “Marriott Bonvoy” next month, this status level will also have a new name—Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite. I do like that they will de differentiating more between Platinum and Platinum Premier as that can get confusing, but I am definitely not a fan of the “Titanium” name. I actually am really not a fan of any of their rebranding names, but oh well!

Believe a typo “The main benefit is that I will not receive a 75% bonus instead of a 50% bonus on all points earned and I’ll have United Premier Silver status.” Remove the NOT?.

I agree the names are crazy – but I DO like that each level has its own “branded” name. No more confusion (at the front desk level) as to what kind of Platinum (50, 75, 100+) a guest is. With different names of elite level – different benefits. There are a lot of names but now the will be able to tell one level better from another.

The Platinum Premier yearly level will become Titanium
The Lifetime Platinum Premier Elite will become Lifetime Titanium
