The St. Regis Monarch Beach in Dana Point, California was always a resort I wanted to visit, but for some reason I never made it there. Unfortunately though they left the Starwood chain (on June 1, 2016), but after a recent $40 million renovation it is supposed to be more spectacular then ever. The Monarch Beach Resort It is definitely a luxurious resort with high end restaurants, activities, and service, and while the price tag reflects that, there is a great deal currently going on for the next few days. Even though it is no longer a chain property, meaning no earning or redeem points, it is a resort that is still on my radar!

For reservations booked through June 17, 2018, they are offering the 3rd night free and a $250 resort credit per stay. While you will no longer receive any of the benefits of having SPG status, the resort credit will hopefully help make up for it. Rates are still extremely expensive over the summer, but are definitely more reasonable starting in the Fall into the Winter. Enjoy your stay!

Nice hotel and golf course, but suffers from the lack of direct beach access. (Guests must take a shuttle to the beach). Am curious why they decided to unaffiliate from SPG. Was it the Marriott deal? Regardless, sounds like there are still deals to be had at the property. Maybe a good property to book via Amex platinum, Citi 4th night, or that Capital One hotels.com card.

This has been called the Monarch Beach Resort for a couple years now (dropped SPG brand at the end of may 2016), having left the St. Regis years ago. Perhaps you’re talking about old news?

That renovation and switch to the Monarch Beach Resort was done a couple years ago (stayed there a couple times since then) and it hasn’t been with SPG since that time, which was 2016. I think this is old information.
