More Flight Options to Reykjavik, Iceland

Going to Iceland has been on my radar for the past few months, especially with flights as low as $500/RT. I have been routinely checking out these fares, and have seen anywhere between $475-$575 on Delta since the January timeframe. The Points Guy highlighted the deals with Delta, however, starting today JetBlue Airways has partnered with Icelandair.

This will open up additional flights throughout the US and to Iceland as well as other destinations throughout Scandinavia. With this partnership JetBlue passengers will be able to connect to a Icelandair flight via Boston, NY, and DC without having to worry about re-checking in and baggage transfers.

Starting June 1, 2011 Icelandair is expanding their service by offering flights twice/day from Boston and JFK. Additionally, starting May 17th, Icelandair will offer their new non-stop service from Washington Dulles to Reykjavik. With these three hubs, travellers from anywhere in the US and Caribbean can easily connect for a trip to Iceland.

Although, I do not see on the JetBlue website the option to book these flights yet and there is little announcement on this partnership, my belief is that it will work similar to the American Airlines partnership that was announced last fall. You will now have the option to earn TrueBlue points on these flights. Once the site is updated with this booking capability, I will let you know.

As of right now, it looks like Delta is the cheapest option, but I will be interested to see if JetBlue will be able to match these fares.
