Post #16 compliments of Mr. Deals…
You may remember a couple weeks back I wrote about my experience booking a rental car on the annual guys trip. Well Mr. Deals didn’t tell Mrs. Deals about a little something else that happened that day me and boys arrived in Utah. So earlier that day we had been discussing what would happen if we got in real late. Basically, it was a question of if it would be worth driving up to the Red Moose Lodge near Powder Mountain in Utah or just crashing at the airport and driving up the next morning. Based on some incoming weather in the northeast we made the call that we should just find a cheap place to crash at by the airport. Well, who better to take on the task of booking something than Mr. Deals (I’m sure Mrs. Deals would think otherwise).
Anyways, I started looking for places near the airport that had at least 2 double beds and a pullout (there were 5 of us). I eventually came across a Courtyard Marriott for about $120 for the night. But, that rate was assuming 5 guests. Of course you never want to book it as if you will have that many people in the room (something I learned from Mrs. Deals, thanks honey). So, I went ahead and booked the same room as if just 2 people were staying there. $89 later we had a room booked for us right by SLC airport.
So now that I say this, here’s what will happen next. Because I didn’t tell Mrs. Deals about this, I’m bound to get in trouble. Originally I was in the clear because we were booking no chain hotels on this boys trip, but now that she knows I booked a chain hotel without her guidance, it means Mr. Deals is in the doghouse. Is there a good reason for this? Probably not, but if you lived with Mrs. Deals you would learn that making travel plans on your own is unacceptable if it includes chain hotels. I’m sure because of this, she will be monitoring all of my reward accounts very closely for the next few trips.
That’s ok though. Mr. Deals is looking out for what his readers want. And that’s stories of how I make Mrs. Deals crazy when I travel!
I’m off to SXSWi this weekend so if any readers are down there and want to grab a drink, just tweet Mrs. Deals at @dealswelike and I will try to meet up.

Quick question — why were you listing double occupancy if you had 5 in your room?
Is that just to avoid extra person fees? So then you would check in and your 4 friends would sort of hide out in your room?
Or is there a different reason?
@Michael – yes, it was to avoid the extra charge per person. Mr. Deals was able to get a two double bed room with a pullout for the $89 so was happy. Granted I just found out about this little scenario so will let the mr. answer if there is anything else to add.
If I had it my way (and knew about this!) he would have been at the hyatt!!
@michael – the price was about $120 if I put it as 5 people. But I could get the same room without changing the number of people on the reservation from 2 for $89. We walked right in no problem. The didn’t seem to care.
