Post #14 compliments of Mr. Deals…
So this weekend is the annual guys trip. A big excitement for Mr. Deals because Mrs. Deals can’t come and has limited influence over what we do (meaning which hotels we stay at). For this trip we are back to Utah for some snowboarding and when I go with the guys it’s much different than when I go with Mrs. Deals (by no means better, just different).
Anyways, as they usually are, this trip was planned last minute. No chain hotels were involved in the plans and we actually landed some deals at local lodges by the mountains.
One of the big things was getting a rental car. A task that one of the other guys took charge of. So we all fly in from different places and we had shared reservations with one another so we knew what was going on. The rental car reservation was with Thrifty because it was the cheapest for a full size SUV. The guy who made this reservation was delayed so we went to make sure we were good before he arrived. So what happens, they don’t have a reservation on file and no SUVs available. Awesome.
I go into quick thinking mode; We disperse and go find out what other companies have SUVs available. Only a few options are there and Dollar ends up with the cheapest and biggest vehicle. This is where Mrs. Deals will be proud. As we are talking about the rate with the Dollar man, I hop on the iPhone and find a fee weekend day coupon (I guess I’ve learned a thing or two from Mrs. Deals over the years). But… there’s a catch.
Mrs. Deals are you ready for this? So it’s only good for a sedan, not an SUV. The Dollar agent is unaware of the promotion restrictions, so I make a reservation online (the coupon is valid online online only) for a standard size car. We give the reservation number to the Dollar man and he makes a few changes to the vehicle type and the promotion holds! Free weekend day for the rental of their biggest vehicle. Booyah!
Mrs. Deals, how proud are you? Please comment.

I don’t know about the Mrs. But your dad is certainly proud.
Yes, very proud. Although probably wouldn’t have happened to begin with if you had let the master handle it herself.
That goes without saying
[…] may remember a couple weeks back I wrote about my experience booking a rental car on the annual guys trip. Well Mr. Deals didn’t tell Mrs. Deals about a little something else that happened that day […]
