Another blog post from Mr. Deals…
Well, Frankenstorm hasn’t created a lazy river down Park Avenue in NYC yet, but when it does, Mrs. Deals and I will be out there riding it. Stay safe out there and if you are traveling to the east coast, get ready to sleep in the airport.
Anyway, a couple weeks back I was down in Austin for a work conference. It was taking place at the Hyatt Lost Pines. I should clarify, this isn’t exactly Austin, as I found out the hard way when the conference group went out to downtown via a 40+ minute shuttle ride from the resort. So before I continue, if you plan on going to Austin, stay in Austin, not at the Hyatt.
Now the Hyatt Lost Pines is fantastic if you want to just get away. There’s a lot of activity to be found within the resort which should be no surprise given it is a resort. As soon as you turn into the gates, you essentially have another 15 minutes to drive to get to the actual lodge. From the looks of it, there are some horse trails along the way and a golf course. This probably contributes to the 15 minute ride down the access rode.
The resort itself is huge. Beyond the features mentioned above, you get a pretty sweet pool with, yes folks, a lazy river. For those of you who didn’t see the tweets, Mrs. Deals is a huge lover of lazy rivers, which means we will likely return to the Hyatt Lost Pines one day. There’s also a little beach area (fake of course), volleyball and bball nets in the pool, bikes to use around the property and a big fire pit to make s’mores in. I mean what more do you really need here? In my opinion, if you have kids, this could be a fun place to visit. You’ve got everything you need right there.
The only thing that was missing from this hotel was a big smoker. I mean if you are in the Austin area, you want some good BBQ right? A few of us tried to see if the Salt Lick would deliver to us one night, but that didn’t work out so well. Good thing the airport has a stand because those breakfast tacos were so good…

The Salt Lick is better if you actually go there to the joint way out in Driftwood. The food is good usually, but the atmosphere is what sells it. For the best BBQ in Austin, head to Franklins or John Mueller BBQ. mmmmmm. I live close to the Lost Pines. You are right, its in the middle of nowhere.
