Yesterday I posted about a limited time Hilton 40% off weekend sale where you also receive 2x stay credit for stays of 2+ nights. I mentioned that this is a decent promotion if you can take advantage since the threshold for meeting Hilton status changed for 2013. While Hilton did give us a good heads up on this, it is always disappointing to see a hotel chain make it harder to earn status. I will say though, Hilton does have a great mid-tier status level (Gold), which includes some great benefits (you can learn more about the benefits of Hilton status here).
The new 2013 qualifications:
- Silver:
- Stays: 4 stays, or
- Nights: 10 nights
- Gold:
- Stays: 20 stays, or
- Nights: 40 nights, or
- Base Points: 75,000 base points
- Diamond:
- Stays: 30 stays, or
- Nights: 60 nights, or
- Base Points: 120,000 base points
I still think needing 20 stays to earn Gold status is acceptable (especially with hotel hoping and 1 night stays), since with this status you get free breakfast for you and a guest and many times access to the concierge lounge. Also, there are MANY opportunities throughout the year to earn Gold status through a Hilton challenge which typically requires 4 stays within 90 days. To learn more about the current challenge, check out this prior blog post – this one will hopefully last until the remaining of the year.
Also, don’t forget that the four Hilton-branded credit cards come with some status, either by just having it or hitting a minimum spend. To learn more about earning a desired Hilton status with one of these credit cards, check out this prior post that discusses the differences of the four Hilton cards.

“I still think needing 20 nights to earn Gold status is acceptable” – shouldn’t it be 20 stays/40 nights?
These nights/stays/base points start over each Jan 1, correct? Or is it cumulative based on prior stays? Im new to the point game and am currently Silver with 60,000 base points. Just curious if im close to the Gold status.
@Tyler – It is based on calendar year. A few years ago, Hilton used to do it on a rolling 12-month basis, but it has been changed and it is Jan 1 – Dec 31.
