New Perk of the Amex Platinum Card

The Platinum Card® from American Express is getting a new perk – all card members (both primary and authorized users) will receive Hilton Gold status. I personally had the card two years ago where everyone was given Hilton Gold status for that year, but it was a one time thing. While I no longer have the Platinum card, I am very glad that they brought back this perk. Hilton Gold status is one of the best mid-tier statuses available.

With Hilton Gold status you will receive complimentary continental breakfast (for two guests) or even sometimes access to the club lounge, a possible upgrade, 5th night free when redeeming your points, and a 25% bonus on points earned. I personally like the complimentary breakfast (or club lounge access) the best as that can ultimately save a ton of money during a stay. Keep in mind though that complimentary breakfast is not given at Waldorf Astoria properties.

If you are currently a member, you can register for Hilton Gold status here. If you are an authorized user on the card, you’ll need to call American Express to get this benefit registered to your account.

Primarily and authorized user card holders already receive the following benefits: Starwood Gold status, Global Entry reimbursement ($100 value), Unlimited Boingo hotspot internet access, $200 airline rebate (not eligible per card, but per overall account), Airport Club, Airspace Lounge, Priority Pass, and Centurion Lounge access.

While this is not the best card, in my opinion, for earning points, the card does have strong benefits. For those that hold one of the Hilton co-branded credit cards solely Gold status, this could allow you to close that card.

Is that replacing SPG Gold? I hate to loose that status, I already have HHonors Gold status.
