You may have already seen this on many blogs this morning, but it looks like the public offer for the Chase Sapphire Preferred credit card on Chase.com has decreased to 40,000 points. While this is unfortunate, the good news is that through my link you can still jump on the 50,000 points offer – phew! UPDATE: The 50k link is no longer available, only 40k bonus points. However, there is no indication on how long the 50k offer will last… for all I know it could end today once they get all their sites synched up, or could be around for a few more months – as of right now there is no telling – but I really do hope it stays around for awhile. Maybe the 40k decrease is just a phase while they try to launch a new increased promotion?! I am really hoping for another 100k promo – but I will not hold my breathe for that.
I recently wrote an entire series on this card as it is one of the best point and mile cards out there for free travel! This card is part of the Chase Ultimate Rewards program, where you can either cash in your points towards travel or transfer your points to a partner loyalty program. You can read some of my previous posts to get a full understanding of the card and the benefits:

Essentially, the 50k points you earn from the sign up offer can be worth anywhere from $625 to $2,000 – it really depends on how you travel. I’d say average would be about $1,200.
Quick info about the Chase Sapphire Preferred card:
- Earn 50,000 bonus points after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months
- No foreign transaction fees
- Earn a 7% bonus on all points earned in the calendar year (you will get these bonus points every January for the previous year)
- Double points on all travel categories
- Double points on dining out
- $95 annual fee waived for the first year
If you’ve been considering getting this card I’d suggest applying now to not miss the current 50k offer. As I mentioned before, I unfortunately am not in the know of when this offer will end (although I am trying to find out!), but the typical trend is that offers do repeat itself. If all offers for this card do move to 40k bonus points, I’m sure the 50k offer will come around again at some point this year, but only time will tell.
Thanks to a few readers for frantically emailing me first thing this morning!

[…] One of the most popular point and mile promotions out there is the Chase Sapphire Preferred credit card (now 40k points). As I mentioned yesterday, you can still receive 50,000 bonus points by spending $3,000 on your card in the first three months, but speculation is that this offer will not last too long (prior blog post).
