During small business Saturday (Saturday November 30th) you can get a $10 statement credit when using a registered American Express credit card at participating small businesses in your local community (must spend $10+ with this Amex card). You can only receive one credit per American Express card, but there is no limit to the number of cards you can register. If you have multiple Amex cards and have an expensive purchase, have the local business split the charges amongst the various cards you have!
To be eligible, you must first register for this promotion starting TODAY! While registration is limited, my assumption is it will be around for at least a few days.
Example of Amex cards you can register:
- Starwood American Express
- Hilton American Express
- Costco American Express
- Bloomingdales American Express
- Macy’s American Express
- American Express Gold Rewards Card
- American Express Platinum Card
- Citi AAdvantage American Express
- Blue Cash Everyday by American Express
There are obviously more Amex cards out there but the list above is a good sample. These include co-branded Amex cards, Citi Amex cards, store specific Amex cards, and then your simple Amex cards that earn Membership Rewards points. Business versions of these cards also qualify. If you have added authorized users, those cards are also eligible as long as they have a separate account number from the primary card. So secondary cards that have the same account number which is typically the case for the Citi American Express cards will not work.
You can search for participating Small Business stores here.
I haven’t yet figured out definitely where I will be “shopping” on Small Business Saturday, but most likely a local restaurant. Last year I was able to purchase $150 worth of gift cards for future use.
I will ensure to remind you all to register come November 24!

I was able to register 5 credit or charge Amex cards, but not Bluebird or Amex for Target. That’s a free $50, and it will help out a small nearby business where I plan to make all the purchases.
Does the Small Business have to be registered in the directory?
I will be in Vegas on Saturday. Can I shop at small business there? And, if so, how can I find out which businesses are considered small there?
Thank you & happy shopping! 🙂
Anyone know if this promotion will work for stores in Canada? I am US citizen w/ US AMEX cards but will be in Canada on 11/30.
If you really want to help the small business use Visa or Mastercard. Small businesses hate Amex’s higher transaction fees,
Bay Area options limited and registration bulky……not sure the juice is worth the squeeze……..
The Amex website for finding small businesses is very bad. What worked better for me was entering the name of a suspected small business (a convenience store) in the search box.
Registration at shopsmall.com required name, Amex card number and email address. It worked well for me as I entered each card number for myself and my spouse.
