About a year ago MyPoints ran an unbelievable promotion where you could ultimately get $500 in free merchandise (you can read about this promotion here, although it is no longer available). I was updating my points and miles tracker spreadsheet today and noticed that I still had not redeemed my MyPoints points I earned. During this promotion I purchased two items that totaled $561.00 and ultimately earned 150,000 MyPoints points (I thought I was only going to earn 75,000 points but since I was new to their loyalty program they were doubling all points earned!). 150,000 MyPoints points is roughly worth about $1,200! So while this was a great promotion, it is only worth something when actually redeeming your points!
This is a reminder to all that took part in that promotion to check your account and redeem! Points do not expire, however, values do change and partners do leave the program. For example, you can no longer redeem your points for Hyatt gift certificates. And the number of points needed to redeem for United miles has increased as well. At the time of the promotion you could redeem 10,100 MyPoints points for 5,000 United miles. Now in order to redeem for the same number of United miles it will cost you 11,100 MyPoints.
Here are the best redemption opportunities:
…for gift cards:
- $100 Banana Republic, Express, Bed & Breakfast, Omaha Steaks, Macy’s, and SpaFinder = 11,850 points
- $100 L.L. Bean = 12,100 points
- $100 Finish Line = 12,350 points
- $100 Pottery Barn, Saks 5th Avenue, Motherhood Maternity, Pottery Barn Kids, Williams-Sonoma, west elm, and Marriott = 12,600 points
- $100 Staples and Sears = 12,850 points
…for cash:
- $50 Paypal credit = 8,900 points
- $50 Visa prepaid card = 9,000 points
…for miles:
- 5,000 United miles = 11,100 points
You need to decide what is more valuable for you – gift cards vs. United miles. I personally wouldn’t opt for the cash options since you can redeem for Staples gift cards instead and then use those gift cards to purchase a gift card of your choice at Staples. Staples carries a whole variety of gift cards and I’ve personally used Staples gift cards to purchase other merchants gift cards before (such as Southwest Airlines, Nordstroms, Subway, Kohls, Lowes, Home Depot, TJ Maxx, Starbucks, Sephora, Bed Bath & Beyond, Panera Bread, REI, etc.). Just check to see what your local Staples carries as you cannot use a gift card online at Staples.com

I redeemed my points for $950 in Walmart gift cards. I bought new tires and other supplies at Sam’s club for my 11,000 mile trip around the country during the summer.
No longer offering Spafinder and Marriott reward gift cards. Heartbroken!
