This is a quick reminder that the yearly revamp of hotel category changes is taking place for Hyatt and today (July 31, 2016) is the last day to book at the current rate. This is by no means a huge change, but there are definitely some hotels to pay attention to. As long as you make future reservations for hotels that are going up in value, you will be locked in at today’s rate. If, however, you need to change your reservation to another date, chances are you’ll have to pay the higher number of points. Here is a list of all the 106 hotels moving categories, but I have listed on some more of the popular hotels (in my opinion of course!) going up or down.
Popular hotels going down a category (this is a good thing!)
- Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort: moving from a category 5 to category 4
- Hyatt Centric South Beach Miami: moving from a category 6 to category 4
- Hyatt Place Los Cabos: moving from a category 2 to category 1
- Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort: moving from a category 4 to 3
Popular hotels going up a category (this is a NOT good thing)
- Hyatt Centric Park City (hotel at the base of The Canyons Mountain!): moving from a category 4 to category 5
- Hyatt Centric The Loop Chicago: moving from a category 4 to category 5
- Hyatt Regency Jersey City: moving from a category 4 to category 5
- Hyatt Regency San Francisco: moving from a category 4 to category 5
- Hyatt House San Juan: moving from a category 2 to 3
- Hyatt Place Dewey Beach: moving from a category 3 to 4
You have until tonight to book those hotels at the current number of points and you can usually book 364 days out. So if you have any speculation that you are going to any of the hotels going up a category and thinking about these hotels, book now! You can always cancel later (just make sure to pay attention to the cancellation terms).
If you are looking to a make a reservation that is going down, you can still make it today, and come Feb 7th, call Hyatt and they will change the point redemption and credit you the difference.
