As I mentioned last week, Starwood has changed the categories of several hotels, which will go into effect tomorrow, March 1, 2012. If you are planning any trips using points and the hotel is going up a category, make your reservation TODAY. This will allow you to make a reservation under the lower point redemption rate. Even if you are not 100% sure of your upcoming travel, book anyways as long as you are able to cancel.
If you have already made a reservation for a hotel that is going down a category, you will be able to get the points back for the difference. Wait till tomorrow for the changes to go into effect and then call Starwood customer service to have them credit the points back to your account.
You can take a look at the hotels changing categories here. Do not wait till tomorrow to make a reservation – you will be out of luck and using more points for a free night (for the ones that are going up a category that is)!
