For those looking to stay at a non-chain hotel, this can be a pretty good deal! Rocketmiles is a third-party hotel reservation site where you earn miles for your hotel stay. Since non-chain hotels typically do not have any sort of loyalty program, this is a great way to earn something for your hotel stay! Of course you can always use the site for chain hotels as well, but you most likely won’t be getting your hotel points and sometimes won’t get the best price – but still worth checking out!
With Rocketmiles, you can select 1 out of about 30 participating airline programs to earn miles. Some of these partners include: American Airlines, British Airways Avios, Southwest, United, Amtrak, Virgin America, JetBlue TrueBlue, Delta, etc. Hotel rates are the same as the best available rate if you were to book directly with the hotel. However, this dosen’t account for other discounts – AAA, Corporate Rates, Specials, etc. So ALWAYS ensure that you are getting the best rate possible. Typically, with non-chain rates is comes out to be the exact same, so you might as well earn those miles!
Amex Offers Promotion
Currently, American Express is offering a $50 statement credit on a $200 or more purchase at Rocketmiles. This is through their Amex Offers promotions where you must use a registered credit card to pay for the reservation. The $200 minimum can include tax as well! You must book your hotel stay by October 30, 2015.
To register:
- Sync your American Express credit card to Twitter (you can do that here). If you are not sure which card is currently synced with your account, you can unsync and then re-sync. Tweet #AmexRocketmiles
- or, Sign into your AmericanExpress.com account and go to the “Amex Offers For You” tab. Find the Rocketmiles offer and make sure to select the “Save Offer” button (although once you do this for one card the option will disappear on other cards, so you’ll need to set up a Twitter account to save the offer to the rest of your Amex cards or read this post to learn how to sync multiple Amex cards with your AmericanExpress.com account)
My Experience
I needed to book a hotel room up in Stowe, Vermont and did not have the option of staying wherever I wanted to as I was going with a big group. We stayed at the Stowe Mountain Lodge which was $299/night. Not a cheap stay by any means, but by booking through Rocketmiles I was able to save some money! I used my registered American Express credit card and immediately received a $50 statement credit. I also earned 3,000 miles! I personally opted for British Airways Avios points, but could have picked any other program I desired. I personally value Avios points very highly and can easily get $75 value from those 3,000 points.
If I had booked directly with the hotel, I would not have received the $50 statement credit or the $75 valued British Airways Avios points. The way I see it, booking through Rocketmiles saved/earned me about $125! Also, since this was my first reservation with Rocketmiles I earned a 1,000 bonus by signing up through the refer a friend program.
Refer a Friend Program
If you are new to Rocketmiles, you can sign up through a friend’s referral link and earn an extra 1,000 miles after completing your first reservation. You can sign up through my referral link here, but feel free to post your own in the comments section as well.
