A little over a year ago Southwest made the official announcement that they were going to start flying to Hawaii. While the exact timing is still unknown (although most likely late 2018), we now know where they will be flying to! I assumed they’d just start with flying to Oahu, but I am happy to see they are actually flying to four different islands – Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and The Big Island.
The exact routes are still TBD, but I foresee them flying non-stop from 2 or 3 different California destinations. I’d assume definitely Los Angeles and San Francisco. For those on the West Coast, getting to Hawaii will be quite easy but might not even be possible (or require 2+ layovers for those in many East Coast cities). Hopefully as Southwest continues to expand its network, flying non-stop cross county will get a little easier!
I know there are many folks out there that wouldn’t dare fly Southwest to Hawaii, but I think it will be great! It will give travelers another option while hopefully keeping competitor pricing low. And for those that have the Southwest Companion Pass, this will be an amazing opportunity!
So what do you think? Will you fly to Hawaii on Southwest?
