SPG Pay Your Birth Year Rate

My grandmothers 90th birthday is coming up. Luckily she doesn’t read my blog or she’d KILL me for giving her age away – most of her friends think she is in the low 80s, although she is fit for a 70 year old. Of course I am the one dedicated to planning a weekend vacation with my entire extended family (not really sure what I got myself into!).

The family really is trying to travel on a deal as everyone has a different budget. While my grandmother is in south Florida, the rest of the family lives all around the country – Boston, New York, Detroit, Indiana, and California. It was most important to find a) a place where there were direct flights for everyone, b) hotels with suites/villas so we could hang out together, and c) inexpensive hotels that were still really good!

In my search, it was clear that Orlando, Florida was the winner. Cheap hotels. Nice resorts. A million timeshare properties, thus villa style lodging. And direct flights for everyone. In my search I stumbled upon SPG’s “Pay Your Birth Year” rate. Essentially, you pay a premium for the first night, but then the 2nd and 3rd night you pay the year you were born (some properties only allow a 2nd night, while others allow a 2nd and 3rd night). When you are going with someone who was born in 1924 the 2nd and 3rd night rates are AMAZING! So ultimately, we are paying 24 (since she was born in 19″24″) for two of our three nights!

The best part of this rate is that we are able to reserve a two-bedroom villa for the same price as a one-bedroom villa (the 2nd and 3rd night that is). Of course the first night is slightly higher – $299 vs. $359 for the night, we are able to stay in a two-bedroom villa for only $60 more total! The next best available rate at the same hotel is the AAA rate which is $169/night for the two-bedroom villa. Even though we are paying a much higher rate for the first night, over the course of the three nights we are saving $130!

Some things to know with the birth rate promotion:

If booking multiple rooms, you must use a different individuals birth year per room (so unfortunately we were not able to use grandma’s birth year on all three rooms, only one!)
You must be over 18+ to participate in this promotion (unfortunately I am not able to use my 9 months old birth year, being born in 2013 would have been a really cheap rate!)
Rates are prepaid and non-refundable
Offer is valid at participating Starwood Hotels & Resorts across the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean.
