Earlier this morning I received an intriguing email from Starwood with the subject line: “We Think You’re Ready for More”. The email stated that I was eligible for a special promotion and pretty much indicated that it was targeted.
It took a few times to finally get the page to load, but after registering for the promotion I was told that I was able to earn up to two free nights. I’d earn one free night after my first two stays and another free night after two more stays. So after four stays I could earn two free nights to use at a future time. Pretty good. The free nights though are capped at a category 5 hotel which requires between 12,000 and 16,000 points for a free night.
The promotion runs between November 3 and January 31, 2015 and you MUST register by December 31, 2014. The interesting thing about this promotion is the landing page for the promotion details states that the free nights must be redeemed by March 31, 2015. But, the terms & conditions page states that the free nights expire December 31, 2015. So there is quite a discrepancy there. I have reached out to SPG to get some clarification on this as that is a huge difference in whether or not the promotion is worth it.
After receiving the promotion, I checked out FlyerTalk to see if there were any other targeted offers going around. It seems like there are a few others:
- 5,000 points per 5 stays up to 15 stays
- 3,000 points per 3 stays for up to 9 stays
- 1,000 points per stay up to 3 stays
- Complete six stays and save 25% on a future Starpoints redemption stay
- Double elite credit towards status
- Two free nights after four stays –> the offer I received
And then of course, some folks have yet to receive any offer. But you can always put your SPG number into the registration website and see if anything pops up. I am not sure how their targeted system is working for this one. I am currently a Platinum number but have very limited stays for this year. Maybe they are trying to get me to incentivize me to stay me over the next few months. I tried other account numbers for friends and family members I manage and everyone else unfortunately was ineligible. This included members that have already earned Platinum for next year and those that have no status and do not stay at SPG hotels often.
Remember, only eligible stays will count towards the promotion. So you must have a point earning stays and stays booked with points or cash + points will not count.
