A few days ago I wrote that Starwood was going through their annual category changes and they would be implemented on March 10, 2015. Well, just a few days after, Starwood made some more adjustments.
- The Royal Palm Miami – increasing from a Category 5 to a Category 6
- Le Méridien Suvarnabhumi, Bangkok Golf Resort & Spa – increasing from a Category 2 to a Category 3
- W Bangkok – staying at a Category 4
- Le Méridien Taipei – staying at a Category 6
- Aloft Buffalo Airport – decreasing from a Category 3 to a Category 2
- Aloft Tampa Downtown – decreasing from a Category 4 to a Category 3
If you booked a hotel in the past few days that is now increasing in a category or staying at the same category (instead of decreasing), your reservation should be honored. However, when you look at your reservation online it might show the higher number of points even though you were charged less.
It is disappointing to see a hotel chain make additional changes after a massive annual re-categorization, but it is what it is.
Thanks to Mommy Points for pointing out this sudden change.
