Back in June I wrote about an awesome opportunity to receive immediate Southwest status through their status match opportunity. With this status match, you’ll receive A-List status for three months and have the opportunity to extend it another 12 months. You just need to show proof that you have status with another U.S. airline. This seems to only be available to those who currently do not have A-List status. You must request the status by December 31, 2018.
With this match, you’ll receive A-List status immediately upon them processing your registration (says it will take up to 12 business days). You’ll then receive the status for three months. You can also then receive the status 12 more months after taking three roundtrips or six one-ways within those three months.
Similar to every single Southwest promotion, only new flights booked AFTER registering for the promotion count. That means any previously booked flights will NOT count, but you can always cancel your flight and re-book to qualify. Just keep in mind that the price might not be the same, so make sure that if there is a price difference it is worth it to earn the status.
I personally have not requested my status match yet. I have a Southwest flight in October and December, so I am waiting a few more weeks to request my status so I will have it for those two flights (and any more that I take!) during the three month period. We then have another Southwest flight in January and March already booked, so I will have Adam request the status at the end of December so he can have the status during those flights. Just make sure to be strategic for your registration period!
