Last month I took a last minute trip to NYC. For those that have been following me for while, we (my husband, my daughter, and I) left the city and moved to Boston to be closer to the grandparents). I was shocked when I saw how inexpensive hotel prices were in the city during the month of February. I opened up the HotelsTonight app and saw that I could stay at the Marriott in midtown for only $105 plus tax. While I knew this was really offpeak, I did not think you could actually stay for this cheap! There were actually some other hotels that were even slightly cheaper, but this hotel was ideal location and I knew exactly what I was getting.
Of course I went onto the Marriott site to see if I could get the same hotel for even cheaper. While rates were still reasonable, I couldn’t find anything that was less then $123/night. That included corporate rates, AAA rates, etc. While I knew I would be forgoing Marriott points by booking through a third-party booking site, it was worth it to save the money!
For the HotelsTonight app, I also had a $25 off coupon for a $125+ reservation. This meant that for $223 TOTAL I was able to stay at a Marriott hotel in NYC! If I had booked directly through Marriott it would have cost me $289.28 for the two nights. I saved $66.28!
While I do not use the HotelsTonight app often, there have been a few occasions where it has helped me get a last minute hotel for extremely cheap! Typically, my hotel reservations are figured out well in advance and HotelsTonight only has available hotel options for a week in advance. I also try to use points as much as possible, when it was worth it, but to stay at a high category hotel when the rate was this inexpensive would have given me a horrible redemption rate and not even close to worth it. I also did not care about getting the stays/nights towards credits and the points earned would not have been even close to the difference saved.
Feel free to share your HotelsTonight experience. While it might not always work for your situation, this is just a reminder to check it out if you need a last minute hotel reservation as you don’t know what inexpensive options might come up! Keep in mind though that reservations are non-refundable and change on a daily basis.
If you are new to Hotels Tonight you can also get a $25 credit by signing up through a friends referral code. Mine is DEALSWELIKE if you want to use, or feel free to leave your referral code in the comments section.
