Wyndham recently acquired La Quinta hotels which means on April 3rd, you’ll be able to use your Wyndham Reward points at La Quinta properties. Of course we do not know what tier level these properties will be at, but assume all La Quinta properties will be either at the 7,500 or 15,000 point level. Of course you can always use your La Quinta points now to make a future reservation, but we do not know yet which will be a better deal. As I am not surprised, Wyndham announced that they most likely won’t tell their members which properties tie to which level until after the changes take place — typical Wyndham not being too open with their members. You can read more about Wyndham’s award chart changes here.
If you have La Quinta points, you’ll want to make sure to transfer them to your Wyndham Rewards account by March 31, 2019. Right now, all points will transfer at a 1:1 ratio, but after this date, your points will be cut in half when transferred over. Only Gold or Elite members will continue to receive the 1:1 ratio after this date and everyone else’s points will be transferred at a 2:1 ratio. Long story short — transfer now!
Transferring now also allows you to use your La Quinta points to book at some of the more top tier Wyndham properties at the fixed 15k point level. When the award chart changes take place, there is a good chance that those properties will double in price to 30k points.
You have about two weeks to figure out the best way to use your La Quinta points, just do not forget to transfer any remaining points over by the end of March!
