Over the past few years I’ve been increasing my Wyndham point balance by purchasing points really really cheap. This was due to a few different promotions/offers: 1) Amex Daily Getaywas; and 2) Two different stay at a participating hotel and earn 16,000 bonus points. I personally “purchased” these points to transfer them to participating airlines loyalty program as Wyndham – I will be transferring them to Southwest come January 1, 2014 so I can get the Southwest companion pass again.
Through November 30, 2013, you can transfer your Wyndham points to United with a 25% bonus. The typical transfer ratio is 8,000 Wyndham points = 3,200 United miles. The maximum bonus you can receive is 20,000 points, meaning you can transfer up to 200,000 Wyndham points to receive the 25% bonus. Transferring 200,000 Wyndham points will ultimately give you 100,000 United miles. If you purchased Wyndham points on the cheap over the past few years, this could be a great way to maximize your United miles.
While I catered this post to speak about Wyndham, this promotion is actually available with many other hotel chains, including: Marriott, Hilton, Shangri-La, Choice Privileges, InterContiental Group Hotels, Club Carlson, Hertz, and Hyatt. Aside from Wyndham, Club Carlson might be another one you’ll want to look into if you purchased too many Club Carlson points recently and want to instead use them for airline miles.
To take advantage of this promotion, you must first register on this United site. When transferring from the hotel you will NOT see the 25% bonus included. It will instead be done on the United side when the points post to your United account.
