Marriott Credit Card Offers with a 70,000 Point Sign Up Offer, Plus 10,000 Point Referral Bonus!

UPDATE: This offer has expired.

For awhile now, the best sign up offer for the Marriott credit card has been 70,000 points after spending $1,000 within the first three months. While it is a great offer for the Marriott card (and much better then the inferior 50,000 point offer that is advertised in some places), another blogger Running with Miles points out that there is language in this offer that prevents you from receiving the sign up bonus again even if you’ve had the card.

Fortunately though, there is another 70,000 point offer available that now allows you to receive the sign up offer even if you’ve received it previously. As long as it has been 24 months since you’ve received the bonus last, you should receive the offer again (as long as you aren’t currently a cardmember). The only real difference between the two offers is that this one requires you to spend $2,000 within the first three months to receive the 70,000 points (not $1,000 like the long-standing existing offer requires).

Additionally, I received an email today from Chase that this card offer is giving out referral bonuses. If you are currently a card member and refer your friend to this card, you’ll receive 10,000 Marriott points if your friend applies and spends the required $2,000 on their card within the first three months (same requirement for them to earn the sign up bonus). While you must send out the invitation to your friends by August 19, 2014, they have until August 31, 2014 to apply.

Screen Shot 2014-07-23 at 12.35.58 PMSo if you are in the market for a Marriott Rewards credit card, here is a recap of the two offers:

  • Offer #1: Earn 70,000 points after spending $2,000 on the card within the fist three months. Eligible if you’ve never received a similar offer before or if it has been 24+ months since you’ve received the offer. Able to refer friends and the referrer will receive an additional 10,000 points. Here is the refer a friend link if you are a cardmember and want to send an invitation to friends (although I cannot get it to work right now)Application link.
  • Offer #2: Earn 70,000 points after spending $1,000 on the card within the fist three months. Not eligible if you’ve received a similar offer in the past, regardless of how long it has been. Application link.

So if you’ve had the Marriott credit card in the past (and not current a cardmember), as long as it has been 24+ months since you’ve received the sign up bonus offer you are good to go to get Offer #2 (upon account approval and meeting the minimum spend requirements).

Can we apply for this card if we already have the Marriott Preferred Card through a 50,000 point promo? I got mine in April of 2013.
