I received a bunch of emails yesterday from Uber letting me know that they’ve cut prices by 20% in NYC. This is for uberX cars and only in New York City. In the email it states that fares are now less expensive then a yellow taxi, but this is just for a limited time (no end date given). They state “the more you ride, the more likely we can keep them this low!”

Here are some sample fares they give to compare against old Uber prices and the regular NYC yellow taxis:

$10 in free credits for new and existing users: There is currently a promotional code for ALL users where you can receive $10 off a trip. You only today to use it though as it expires July 10, 2014 at 1am ET (so really the night of July 9th). Add code 10r62014 to your account.

Free ride for new users: If you sign up for Uber through a referral link you will get your first ride free (up to $30). This is much better then the previous new user sign up offer of $10 credits. You can sign up for Uber here and read more about this current promotion here.
