Just a few days ago I wrote an article on how to get around Manhattan on a deal. During this post I included all of the on-demand car service apps that you can use and the current pricing. If you read through the post you’ll notice that the car service Via is the cheapest method with a flat $5.44 per ride cost (including tip and tax!).
While this car sharing service is absolutely great, there are two limitations:
- Operating hours are 6:30am to 9pm during the week only (no weekends or holidays)
- Cannot go wherever you desire throughout Manhattan
While limitation #1 has stayed the same, limitation #2 has enhanced! Up until now you could only take a Via between 14th Street to 110th Street in Manhattan. However, starting today, you’ll be able to go South of 14th Street and take a Via all the way down to Houston Street!
This expanded service will definitely help locals and visitors get around Manhattan easier whether it be to go to work or visit some tourist sites.
I’ve taken Via many times before and have always had a positive experience. Just remember though, unlike Uber or Lyft, this is only a ride sharing service. That means there is a good chance you’ll be sharing a car with other passengers going on a similar route as you are. Also, Via does not pick you up at your exact destination, but will give you a spot to walk to (within a few blocks) and pick you up there along their route. With their algorithm you really aren’t going out of the way to pick up other passengers and they will only wait two minutes.
