If you are looking for a flight out west from Newark and Virgin America is less than twice the price than any other carrier, this can be a great deal. I looked up a random date from Newark to San Francisco and the direct flight was the lowest available price (same price as United). While the price for one passenger was a steep $510, for two people this is not a bad price at all for such a last minute booking.
