As you may or may not know, AirTran’s A+ Reward program will be ending on November 1, 2014. At that point, your account will be transferred over to Southwest’s Rapid Rewards program.
So until that date, you can still earn and redeem A+ credits, but what will happen with your AirTran account come November 2?
- If you do not have a Southwest account, one will automatically be created for you
- If you have unredeemed A+ credits, those will be transferred to Southwest’s Rapid Rewards program:
- A+ credits will transfer to 1,200 Southwest Rapid Reward points each – which is equal to about $17
- A+ Coach award vouchers that have an expiration date post November 1 will transfer to 9,600 Southwest Rapid Reward points (per one-way voucher) – which is equal to about $137
- A+ Business Class award vouchers that have an expiration date post November 1 will transfer to 19,200 Southwest Rapid Reward points (per one-way voucher) – which is equal to about $274
- A+ Business Class upgrades that have an expiration date post November 1 will transfer to 4,800 Southwest Rapid Reward points – which is equal to about $60
- If you have elite status with AirTran you will be enrolled into Southwest’s A-Life status. This status will expire on December 31, 2015. You can learn more about A-List status here.
- If you have an AirTran Companion pass it will be converted into a Southwest Companion Pass. This new companion pass will expire on December 31, 2015. You can earn an AirTran companion pass by redeeming 100 AirTran A+ credits. Those points redeemed, however, will go only towards the companion pass and will not then allow you to use them for a free flight (which is different then how you earn a Southwest Airlines companion pass).
And as I mentioned yesterday, if you currently have Southwest standard awards or credits in your account, you can transfer them to AirTran and they will automatically be transferred to Southwest points. This is a great trick if you are looking to convert your Southwest credits to points! Related blog post. And remember, you only have another few days to extend your standard award free flights and transfer your Southwest points to a standard award ticket through this trick.
If you are currently an AirTran member and new to Southwest, you can read more about their program in this prior blog series.
