Another blog post by Mr. Deals…

I don’t know about you, but I’m not much of a planner. When it comes to new destinations, I do a little research and keep a few ideas in my head and then usually I’m just directed around by Mrs. Deals. Don’t get me wrong, I like having some key things to do during the trip, but I like to live with a little bit of unknown. It keeps things interesting.

So where am I going with this. The other day, I got a text from Mrs. Deals with this picture:

Trip Plan

My exact response was “Good God.” I knew exactly what this was. It was my in-laws trip plan for their adventure driving from San Francisco to LA (a great trip, which I highly recommend if you’ve never done it).

Now, I have grown up in the digital age, so I can’t really go too crazy about my in-laws planning their trip with the use of an entire tree for all that paper. But what has become really funny after seeing this, is just how that trip is progressing so far. After Mrs. Deals approved this packet for their trip, the next part of the plan was Uber, how to use Uber.

I’m going to guess 99% of those of you reading this have used an Uber or a Lyft at some point in the last 5 years. Mrs. Deals parents had never used either, which meant, they needed a lesson. Mrs. Deals mom actually drove 30 minutes to our house to get a lesson on using the app. And then, when they actually made it to San Francisco and were using Uber, Mrs. Deals was getting bombarded with tipping questions from both her parents. The best part was that their 2nd Uber ride ever required some help from the concierge at the hotel.

Anyway, back to my original thoughts here. I not much of a planner, so all of this was pretty entertaining for me. The trip folder, Uber practice (twice) and the play by play of all the trip activities. I am fortunate that I have a partner in crime that gets a thrill out of all the planning. I guess that’s why we work well together when traveling. I just know that if I ever had a folder like that picture above, I’d probably end up leaving it in the seat back pocket on the plane…
