I know people have pro’s and con’s when it comes to Uber, but they are really stepping it up this time and helping people get to and from one borough to another while the “L” train subway is not running. Originally, they were running $5 rides between certain locations in Manhattan and Williamsburg (Brooklyn) for a 5 week period (over the weekend only), but they just lowered that to $2.75 – the exact same cost for the subway even though the subway is not an option.

The locations include anywhere along the L subway line (Manhattan locations: 10th street to 18th street; Brooklyn locations: zip codes 11211 and 11249)

Uber Williamsburg

The $2.75 rides is for uberPOOL pick ups only which means there is a chance the driver might pick up somewhere else along the route. I’ve written about uberPOOL in the past, but with it you can request a ride for up to a maximum of 2 riders per pickup. You will then be matched (possibly) with other people requesting a ride and there can be up to four passengers in the car total. I’ve used it before and have always had a good experience. I’ve also met some interested passengers to chat with. Even if they do not match you with another passenger, the ride is still $2.75 for this particular promotion!

The $2.75 fares will run between 11:30pm on Fridays until 5am on Mondays through May 18, 2015.

Referral links to get free rides: If you are new to Uber you can get a free ride up to $20. Feel free to leave your own Uber referral code in the comments section below. Just make sure to not use your free ride on a $2.75 fare!

This came via NY Magazine, which is one of the two dozen magazines or so, I’m getting for free.
