Southwest Airlines is sending out targeted emails with promotion codes allowing you to book a Southwest Airlines award flight with a 20% discount. The email includes a single-use promotion code which can be made for a new roundtrip reservations through December 22, 2014. Make sure to check your spam folder! You only have a few days to use the code and unfortunately the eligible travel time is short as well. The code is only valid for travel January 6 through February 12, 2015 (blackout dates: January 16-19). It is also only valid for travel within the US and Puerto Rico (international flights to the Caribbean and Mexico are not eligible).

This is a great promotion for those who will be traveling on points for that month and haven’t already made their reservation. Although, remember with Southwest you can cancel a flight made with points and rebook with no fee. If your flight hasn’t gone up in price (or just slightly where you still come ahead with the 20% off), you can go ahead and cancel your points reservation and the points will immediately be deposited back into your account. You can then go ahead and rebook for the same exact flight using the promotion code you received in your email. If you have many points in your account I actually suggest booking the new flight first then canceling the old just to make sure prices do not change within that few minutes time period.

I personally had a reservation booked for my Dad that was going to require 14,912. When I went to rebook, not only was I able to apply the 20% off coupon, but the fare had also dropped! By re-booking his flight and applying the 20% discount, I was able to redeem only 9,897 for a last minute roundtrip trip to Florida in January. That is an amazing deal and much better than the 25,000 points another airline would require for a US domestic roundtrip flight!

Have a code that you will not be using? If you were targeted for this promotion and will not be using your code, I am sure many other Deals We Like readers would love to use it! Feel free to comment below with your promotion code and it will be a first come, first serve type of thing.

Enjoy!

I did what you suggested, but yesterday! Cancelled a flight, and rebooked with the code.

But Southwest sent me TWO codes! So. Ready? Go.
