UPDATE: This offer has expired.
With the Delta credit card there are actually four different cards with varying annual fees. I know one of the things that turns folks off from applying for credit cards is the annual fee that comes along. So, I wanted to point out how you can offset these Delta credit card annual fees and in many cases actually make money! While this works for all American Express credit cards, I want to specifically point out the Delta cards since they have some great limited offers from time to time.
Key Links:
- Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express
- Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express
- Gold Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card from American Express
- Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card from American Express
From the above offers, you see that two cards (Gold) have a $0 annual fee the first year and then a $95 annual fee thereafter. The other two cards (Platinum) have a $195 annual fee the first year plus every year thereafter.
Offsetting Fees with Amex Offers
If you’ve been keeping up on this blog for awhile you are probably well aware by now that I am a huge fan of making free money through the American Express statement credit offers, otherwise known as Amex Offers. These promotions typically require you to spend $X amount of money at a participating merchant to get $Y amount back as a statement credit. Since these are “American Express” offers, you can only use an American Express credit card to be eligible for the statement credit. All four of these Delta credit cards listed above are American Express credit cards and are eligible for these offers. And you are able to receive the statement credits on multiple cards!
While I might be an extreme case since I take advantage of these offers quite often, exactly a year ago over the course of a 2 month timeframe I received $1,000 back in statement credits across 10 Amex cards. I wrote about this real life scenario here to help you understand how these statement credits at participating merchants can actually help you save money on everyday purchases!
With the Amex statement credit offers alone, that meant that I averaged $100 back on each card over the course of the two months. I also receive many other statement credits throughout the year. These statement credits allow me to justify the annual fee (if there is one) and “earn” money on top of it! Some pretty popular Amex Offers that came out recently include: $25 statement credit at BJ’s Wholesale Club, $60 statement credit at Delta Airlines, $40 statement credit at Best Buy, $70 statement credit at Waldorf Astoria or Conrad Hotels, $250 statement credit at Sam’s Club, $50 statement credit at Hilton, $25 statement credit at Newegg, plus many more!
While I love the American Express credit cards for many other reasons, taking advantage of offers to make extra money through statement credits is great!

My BJ Offers (4) have disappeared from my acct.
@mommafrica – did you already add them to your account? another reader told me that they met enrollment pretty quickly.
That may have been me. The day they were added – they were down by 7PM.
Or you could just have a no fee AMEX HHonors card and avoid giving dirty Delta a dime of your money and get the same offers.
@AnonCHI – Yup! My absolute favorite card are the no annual fee Amex Cards and earning a ton of statement credits on them!
