A Better IHG Credit Card Offer Available, Maybe

Last month I wrote about the IHG Rewards Club Select credit card where you could get a 70,000 point sign up offer after meeting the minimum spend requirement. However, thanks to Mommy Points I see that some folks have been able to get a targeted for 80,000 points + a $50 statement credit once meeting the same minimum spend requirement. This is clearly a much better offer, although unfortunately not available to everyone.

There is no direct link to this offer. To find the offer, you will need to browse around on your IHG account and see if a particular offer appears. While I was able to find a targeted offer on the final booking stage (prior to paying) page, it was only for a 60,000 point offer which is far less than the standard offer. I actually tried a few different accounts and none of them showed this 80,000 point offer.

With that being said, earlier this month I applied for the IHG Rewards Club Select credit card under the 70,000 point offer. I sent Chase a secure message letting them know that there is a better offer available and they were able to match the 80,000 point offer + $50 statement credit. Chase is typically good with this as long as you’ve applied within the past 90 days, although no guarantee.

I am actually mad at myself for waiting so many years for applying for this card since it is one of the best cards available to hold on to. While the yearly annual fee is $49 (waived the first year), you get a free night at ANY IHG hotel every single anniversary year. For the same reason I keep my Marriott credit card year after year, I will be keeping this card for years to come. My husband applied on the same day as well so from a year from now we will have two nights to use at any high end InterContinental (or any other hotel under the umbrella) for $99. I personally think it is well worth it and even if I am only able to use it at a lower end hotel, I’ll still be ahead.

If you are interested in this card, I suggest searching through the IHG site to see if you are targeted. If you are not able to bring up the better offer, you can read more about the current card offer and the perks of the card here. You can also try my method by contacting Chase as well!

I would like to get the Marriott 70,000 offer. How can I get it if I did not receive a targeted email?

Everybody Hates A Tourist

Thanks for this post! I just signed up for the 70k offer last week, so I submitted a request for the better offer through the secure message center. We’ll see what they say.

Could one simply call Chase and ask to apply on the phone for the 80k offer?

So glad I read this post. I applied last Thursday and wrote to them yesterday. Today I got an e-mail saying they’ll give me 80k in points, but couldn’t do the statement credit, so they threw in another 10k in points. So 90k in IHG points for meeting $1000 in spend in three months. How cool is that??

I do have two questions. Do I need to wait for my one year anniversary before I get a free night? Or is a free night included when I activate?

Also, I’m looking to use this card and the points in one of the better hotels in Vegas, yet the best hotels seem to be already booked through next year. Am I doing this right? Looking at the Palazzo and Venetian.
