Amazon just launched an awesome promotion where you can receive 20% off your purchase at Amazon.com, up to $100 – and gift card purchases are included!!! This promotion is only for American Express Membership Rewards earning credit card members where all you have to do is just use 1 Membership Reward point towards your purchase. While this is a very common promotion, this is by far one of better ones since you can save $100! There is no end date to the offer and Amazon states that it can end it whenever they so desire. So I definitely suggest taking advantage within the next few weeks. This promotion is launched in conjunction with Amazon Prime Day coming up, so this could be a great opportunity to save money on already discounted items on July 16th! Make sure to activate the offer on the Prime Day page.a cardboard box with a rainbow in it

Steps to take advantage:

  • If you haven’t already linked your American Express card to your Amazon account, you can do that here.
  • Shop at Amazon.com and add up to $500 worth of products (which must be sold and shipped by Amazon.com) to your Shopping card. Many merchant gift cards work as well as Amazon gift cards, so you can go ahead and search for merchant gift cards here.
  • On the payment page, select your linked Membership Rewards earning credit card. At the bottom of the payment page you’ll see all your linked accounts where you can use points (Chase and Amex). Select your American Express Membership Rewards Points account and enter the number of points you want to use towards your purchase. Since I do not like redeeming my points at Amazon (due to the low redemption value), I entered just 1 cent which means 1 point will be applied. For the promotion to apply, the minimum amount required is only 1 point! Do not do full points as it is not a good value!
  • On the checkout page, you’ll see the 1 point applied and the 20% taken off. No promotion code needed!
  • If you are looking to purchase Amazon gift cards, you’ll need to purchase at least $100 of other products or third-party gift cards for the Amazon gift cards to apply. UPDATE: YOU CAN NO LONGER PURCHASE AMAZON GIFT CARDS WITH THE PROMO, JUST THIRD-PARTY GIFT CARDS.

And since this promotion doesn’t require a coupon code, you are able to combine it with any codes that surface! Just remember to activate the promotion and apply 1 Membership Reward point.

Enjoy your discounted Amazon purchase!

Amazing promo. Since they can end it whenever, best to lock it in now – buy $400 in Amazon gift card, $100 any third-party gift card (e.g. Uber, Whole Foods, etc), use 1 MR point, and pay $399.99.

In your example, you used $1 which equals 100 points. In the Amex checkout you need to enter .01 (1 cent) so that only one point gets used.

Won’t work for Amazon or 3rd party gift cards:

Promotional discount may not be redeemed for Amazon.com Gift Cards or third-party gift cards.

John, actually it does. You need at least $100 of shipped by Amazon products and then you can do $400 of Amazon gift cards. I was able to buy Subway and Darden gift cards and they qualified for the $100 portion.

Looks like Amazon cards have now been removed from the deal. But the deal can be done a second time with this reset!! Did subway, cheesecake factory and outback. $1.99 procesing fee for some really good restaurant cards!!
