American Airlines and Hyatt are offering reciprocal status match opportunities. This is a great opportunity for those who already have status with either loyalty programs as you can earn up to World of Hyatt Globalist and AAdvantage Platinum Pro status. Just make sure you have linked your two accounts and register for the match and challenge by this fall. From the time you register, you’ll have 90 days to meet the challenge requirements.

If you meet the challenge requirements, you’ll maintain your AAdvantage status through January 31, 2020 and your World of Hyatt status through February 28, 2022. Just remember though, even though you might earn your desired status with World of Hyatt, that does not necessarily come with all of the milestone benefits as you actually have to complete qualifying nights. This includes not having access to guaranteed suite upgrades.

Earning Reciprocal Points and Miles

Not only can you earn status with another airline or hotel program, you can continue to earn bonus points and miles in the other program, depending on your status level.

Those with AAdvantage Gold, Platinum, Platinum Pro and Executive Platinum status will earn one AAdvantage bonus mile for every dollar spent on qualifying Hyatt stays and experiences.

World of Hyatt Discoverist, Explorist and Globalist members can earn one World of Hyatt bonus point for every dollar spent on qualifying American Airline flights.

This allows you to earn hotel points while flight and airline miles during hotel stays. And this is in addition to the regular points and miles you’ll earn anyways. The best scenario to maximize your points and miles earned is to have status in both programs.

Have AAdvantge status and earn bonus miles on every Hyatt stay.

Overall

This is a great opportunity to earn status with American Airlines or Hyatt and might sway you to change your airline or hotel brand of choice this year. Just remember to wait to register for a time when you will fly or stay the most during the 90 day time period.
