The American Express® Gold Card made its grand appearance in 2018 and is a great card to maximize your points earned and money saved on food and travel! With a increasingly high welcome offer, this is definitely a card to consider, especially if you’re looking to rack up your Membership Rewards account.

Welcome offer: Earn 60,000 Membership Rewards® points after you spend $4,000 on eligible purchases with your new Card within the first 6 months.*Terms Apply. See Rates & Fees

Maximize Your Points and Statement Credits!

This is one of the richest cards cards for restaurant and supermarket purchases. With this card, you’ll receive:

  • 4x Membership Rewards points at Restaurants worldwide (including takeout and delivery)
  • 4x Membership Rewards points at U.S. Supermarkets (on up to $25,000 in purchases annually, then earn 1x points)
  • 3x Membership Reward points for flights booked directly with the airline or amextravel.com
  • 1x Membership Reward point on all other purchases

You’ll earn up to $10 per month in statement credits when you use your card at eligible dining partners. Assuming you are able to maximize the statement credits earned, this will give you a $120 dining credit every single year. Some participating locations include Shake Shack, The Cheesecake Factory, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Boxed.com and Grubhub/Seamless Web.

You’ll also receive up to $120 in UberCash annually. All you have to do is add your card to your Uber account and you’ll automatically get $10 in UberCash per month, which can be used for UberEats orders or Uber rides in the U.S.

My Thoughts

This is definitely a “cool” card and I love the concept of the Rose Gold. Although I personally do not apply for cards based on the metal type, this is definitely a card worth considering. While there is a $250 annual fee (See Rates & Fees), on a yearly basis you’ll receive up to $240 worth of credits ($120 on dining credits, plus $120 in UberCash). Assuming you are maximizing your credits, this nets out at a $10 payment for the card per year. In the first year, you’ll also earn the bonus points from the welcome offer.

If you are one who spends a ton on food, whether it is dining out or grocery shopping, earning 4x points at restaurants worldwide and U.S. Supermarkets is pretty amazing. While the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express will give you a 6% statement credit at U.S. Supermarkets, you are capped at $6,000 per year. Many folks would also say that 4x points is more valuable then 6% statement credit as well. On the restaurant side, the American Express Gold Card is far superior then the point you’d earn on any other card. Overall, this is by far the best card you can have for those food purchases!

FYI. I ordered the rose gold card 1st day, October 4. Got my plain gold card today. Neither the original csa nor I knew/understood that ALL cardholders from same account get the same card. Today’s csa verified I can’t get rose for only myself. My son and husband don’t want rose. I’m bummed.
