This summer, American Express launched their first Amex Small Business promotion for the first time in over 5 years. With this generous offer, all American Express credit cardmembers can receive a $5 statement credit for every $10 spent at a small business merchant. This offer can be taken advantage of 10 times, which means you can earn a total of $50 back.

Unfortunately the enrollment deadline has already pass, but those who were able to enroll have until tomorrow, September 20, 2020 to use their credit card at small business locations.

For those who enrolled, you’ll want to make 10 different $10 or more transactions to receive the full $50 back in statement credits. American Express has a list of all merchants that qualify.

This is an excellent opportunity to not only save money, but to support small businesses that are hurting due to the pandemic. If you do not have anything to actually purchase right now, you can always purchase ten $10 gift cards to your local store or restaurant and use them at another time. Just make sure you are buying the gift card straight through the merchant in-store and not through a third-party online. You can also spread your savings across multiple merchants.

Once you spend your $10 at a merchant, you should immediately receive an email that your $5 statement credit is being process. Even though it might take a few business days to receive the statement credit, you just have to make the purchase by tomorrow.

If you aren’t sure how many times you’ve received the credit, you can go into your American Express account and see how many $5 statement credits you’ve received. However, if you’ve received the credit twice in one days, it will show up as a $10 statement credit with the last merchants name. (Same goes for if you’ve used it more than twice in a day).

I am so happy to see American Express supporting small businesses again with this Amex Offer. Where will you spend $100 and save $50?
