I just received an email from the on-demand car service company Gett that they are lowering their prices by up to 25% and implementing fixed pricing. Based on the chart they give, the rates you receive could be much cheaper than Uber (not always, but many of the times). I’ve written about Gett before, especially due to their flat $10 rates in certain parts of Manhattan – those rates will most definitely be better than Uber! 
Instead of surge pricing where you can pay X times the fare, they are adding a flat $9.99 peak time charge. The site doesn’t state an exact time when peak times will be in effect, but it does say that it will be during the “busiest rush hours and weekend nights.” What I like about this pricing model is you know exactly how much your fare will be prior to even getting into the car. There are no surprises, which has been a big issue with Uber for many folks.
For those not familiar with Gett… It is a similar service to Uber where you request your car through their phone app and pay with your credit card already on file. On the Gett app you set the tip for each ride, although you can change it per ride if you want to as well. They also have set prices from Manhattan to the NYC airports: to JFK is $70, to LGA is $48, to Newark is $67. You can also pre-book a ride to the airport 3 hours in advance. I personally wouldn’t use Gett to the airport as it is more expensive then Dial 7 and you are paying for tolls not only while you are in the car, but also the tolls incurred on the reverse route.
To try out Gett, they are giving new members $20 to sign up if you sign up through a referral link. I personally have used Gett and had great service. I do know a few people have complained about a car not being available for 10 or so minutes, but if you aren’t in a rush it could be cheaper than Uber. It is one of the car service companies I listed in my Best Car Service Apps post.

True or false: you’ve never actually ridden in a Gett car? FALSE because they are never available. Stop pandering for click bait and referrals.
@David – I’ve actually taken them on a few occasions. I live uptown and have taken them during the week later at night and have never had an issue.
I’ve had about a 10% success rate getting a car from Gett. If you have an hour or so to keep refreshing the search it may be worth it but if you need a car in 30 minutes or less….just about impossible from my experience. The drivers I have gotten all worked for 4 or 5 different services so maybe they put Gett requests at the end of the line if they know they’re only getting a $1.90 tip on the $10 rides in central Manhattan.

I got an answer from Gett. It’s NO. Each country has its own account. Money does not transfer over.
