A few days ago I wrote about Hilton getting rid of their AXON awards for good with absolutely zero notification. While these awards are actually nothing to write home about, I was personally disappointed that Hilton would just silently do away with them and hope that it just went unnoticed by their members. Fortunately though, per View from the Wing, Hilton is giving members until February 15, 2017 to go ahead and book these awards (they were originally supposed to end on 12/31/16). These AXON awards are only for those that have Hilton Silver, Gold, or Diamond status and must be booked over the phone.
As I mentioned above, these awards are actually not a huge benefit to the program. A few years back, Hilton rolled out 5th night free awards and in many cases, utilizing the 5th night free is way better then the AXON award. You cannot combine 5th night free and AXON. I actually wrote an entire post a few years ago titled “AXON vs. 5th Night Free – Which One is Better?” which highlights which one to use for every Hilton category. What I found is that the 5th night free is actually better for most categories. The only scenario where AXON awards are better are for Hilton category 7, 8, and 10 hotels during peak award stays. If you are looking to book a 5 night stay that falls into one of these categories, then I suggest booking within the next month.

Thanks for this awesome update!! I was so sad when I called on January 7th to book a 4-night AXON stay and was informed it had ended.
